Planning to move there alone next. year. Loved this video, thank you!
@hunniehaikuThe rent is the same in the uk, but for mid apartments. And food is £1k a month for a small family - budgeting. Sounds okay if you have a standard wage.
@EllePraysThis was really nice and insightful and itās so crazy how time flies because I remember coming across your video when you initially moved. I still havenāt taken the plunge yet, but Iām hoping by next year that I would. I was hoping you would include something for parents & for kids- single parents (especially) who are considering moving to Houston like recommendations for good school districts, childcare, medical care and things like that would be really helpful. š«¶š½
@DithsHauteSpotI live near cypress and spring
@angelicab3528Do they have Publix out there? Or Kroger?
@angelbishop9574This video was so helpful. So glad I came across it! Moving to a new state with my 2 kids been on my mind a lot lately but I want to make sure Iāll be okay for at least the first 3 months , money wise .
@taniaforeman8482Iām moving from Massachusetts to outside of Houston area
@elimelechs.l3246How about clear lake?
@mothmindset1106I moved to Houston from Brooklyn 3 years ago. I agree with the grocery prices. It went up so much. 2 of us used to spend 300$ per month and even tho we havenāt upgraded our menu we now spend about 600$
@gvangm9334Love the content
@FeteemaCooper-h1lI am not from Houston, and I have lived all over the U.S. I moved to Houston 6 years ago, and I have lived near downtown as well as in the suburbs. There are some things I like about it, especially lower home prices compared with big coastal cities, and the diversity and food options. However, there are three things I absolutely HATE about living here:
1) Horrible weather--blazing heat and sticky humidity from May through September, heavy rain and major flooding problems. Did I mention the mosquitoes?
2) Horrible infrastructure--slow and inaccessible public transit, busted up streets and sidewalks, not at all walkable, and for the most part not bikeable aside from the bayous and a few bike lanes that don't even connect, plus a power grid that keeps crashing every time there is a major storm or even a little bit of snow. It is a joke to be without electricity in a city that calls itself the energy capital of the U.S., but that has happened to me more than 3 times since I moved here.
3) Horrible political leadership--we are governed by reactionaries who are deeply hostile to progressive ideas of any kind. While this is particularly true of our state government, our local government under the current mayor honestly isn't much better.
While there are many wonderful people here in Houston and the state of Texas in general, after six years here I am absolutely sick of the weather, the infrastructure and the right-wing politics. I was much happier in other cities I've lived in, and I can't wait to get out.
I moved to the Houston area 7 years ago. I too am originally from the NYC area (Northern NJ). Best decision I ever made. Things have definitely changed in 7 years. This video is very informative.
@geraldclark6241Great video! Very detailed and informative. Iām born and raised in Houston and like seeing these videos.
@Jessee-7Hi, how are the race dynamics in the schools and work spaces?
@milli_nytslifestyleI moved from NYC to Kingwood almost 2 yrs ago and Kingwood is beautiful. Quiet. Peacefulā¦but I ended up moving downtown/midtown and I love it because it gives pieces of NYC life but itās slower and less chaotic. Itās more affordable. And Iām at the center of EVERYTHING. And Iām also singleā¦lolā¦So not so bad. If youāre older married with a family, midtown/downtown probably wouldnāt be your vibe.
@ZeeNikoleNot a fan of Niagarians. Maybe I should move to Dallas
@saraha.1336I want to move near there but I donāt want to deal with hurricanes š or floods
@charlita25Born and raised here. Alot of out of towners are moving here with low poverty mindset (ghetto) which brings the value down in our neighborhoods. (mainly Louisianna, Mississippi and Chicago) When have Houston Tx been it place? But welcome to Houston great information for the newcomers.
@lalarodgers3141Thanks for sharing!
Iāve been in HOU, Texas since 2021, I reside in the Kingwood/Humble area and love it! There are many up and coming building sites for new homes as well. I will be purchasing a home in 2027 Iām completing the update on my degree so thatās my priority. Iāve not had an issue with safety or crime. I make the drive if I desire additional entertainment than what my area offers without paying the costs to live in the area of entertainment. However, we have enough entertainment to have a great weekend as needed.
HOU has not been cheaper for me compared to where Iām originally from.I pay twice what I paid for mortgage while I temporarily rent. However my income here covers the difference.
As far as dating itās interesting here. Iām a believer of Christ so Iām trusting God once I graduate next year, Iāll meet a like-minded believer in my age range.
Someone mentioned Nurses do not get paid well, thatās not been my experience at all! Everyoneās experience is different, just do your research.
Just because HOU is a party city for some, you make the life here for you as you desire. I live a life thatās family oriented. I live within my means and do not allow what the so called masses advise it popular or needed here. Find joy in choosing your own life by not following the masses and thatās been a personal key to happiness for me.
I enjoyed watching you video very informative. The one thing I would say about dating is that for majority of ppl dating will be really challenging, if your looking for something serious. Houston is a party city. Thereās fewer good paying jobs, and as yu mentioned commuting is a huge issue due to traffic and distance. Put all these factors together and yu get disaster for dating. First Houston has problem with domestic violence. So many ppl have been in toxic relationships and have negative view of dating, then because low paying jobs ppl turn toward scamming or using ppl to get resources, so everything feels very transactional even with coworkers as more doors open if yu kiss up to the boss or others yu want to use. With the party scene obviously comes high std rates and drug usage. In Houston a lot of ppl ik were heavy drinkers or chronic smokers so if yu donāt smoke most ppl really donāt want to deal with yu because itās a heavy part of socializing. But I think Houston helped me really see ppl as they are and gave me thicker skin so now Iām always conscious of what someone is trying get out of there interaction with me. I loved going to the parks to relax and work out. I would say before dating in Houston yu need a solid group of friends from work, your apartment complex, the gym, church. Otherwise itās easy to feel lonely as ppl try to use yu. Opening up leaves yu vulnerable as ppl in Houston are known to ghost. Also, consider having a roommate. Most ppl in Houston live with ppl so they get there social needs met, your more of an escape from the world.
@tj139Are you single do you have ig
@anthonyhumphrey2540Iam that generous righteous man,welcome to Texas ladies šØš±šššš
@j-valking2849Peace and blessings to my home state which will be their country soon, enjoy the good diversity of food ladies and etc.ššš#TexasStrongšŖš¾šØš±
@j-valking2849Iām from California and thinking about moving to Texas for a lower cost of living. Iām DROWNING in California š. Iām scared because itās a big change from being in Cali my whole life but I think Iām ready. Iām paying $3.1k for a 3 bedroom in a small city in the middle of nowhere. I wouldnāt mind living outside the city in Texas and for more than $1k less a month lol
@torrib1219hurricane sandy????
@jeffreyappiah28Iām a young black American from Midwest coming from LA to Houston and have six figures in a CD 20k and a savings and almost 10k in my checking not coming with car should I rent a room right away or get apartment donāt want to live in worst neighborhood but want to live close to black women/ my dating preference. And my job transfer
@twofoereactsIm in alabama and considering moving to houston to go to school
@TRNCHBABY_ON_TOPI'm from Detroit. Not looking to move there but I want to visit for a weekend. You have any recommendations on hotels that would be good for a weekend trip?
@brownsense1Thank you random youtube lady. You just gave me an idea. I'll be closing on this 2/2 condo in downtown Houston minutes from Galleria (on Aftonshire n Oakshire, great location. ) and I should be able to get at least 1k for the other room if that's what people are paying for rent. Thanks again.
@shrimpnbeerDuring flood season make sure to park your vehicle where it floods the most. (Don't do this w/o insurance)š¤£š¤£
@shrimpnbeerHouston is a horrible unsafe city to live in. Move there only if you want a poor quality of life, I was there for only a year and left 3 months ago and it was the best decision I ever made. Living there was very traumatic on my mental health
@barbarabeckley5514Realistically you can save at least $4,000-$5000 bands to move . Sell majority of your furniture and youāll be fine .
@VirgoatciaraaI'm in Las Vegas but considering a move to Houston. I have family there and visit a couple times a year. I have a remote job as well, just trying to weigh the pros and cons and the expense of moving. Thank you for making this video and sharing your journey.
@SamanthaStewYou better have flood insurance š and the property tax and car insurance is high as hell in Houston but there's no state tax which is a plus. I use to live in Houston back in 2007, i moved back to Georgia in less than a year. Houston is cool but it ain't for everybody.
@saonedixon5476Nice video. As a Native I wanted to add that Kingwood is in a flood zone. The San Jacinto River and Lake Houston border the area. Most of Kingwood is in Montgomery County also. Sugar Land,Texas is in Fort Bend County. It has a lot to offer people with families. Missouri City,TX is a suburb in Fort Bend County with a large black population. Places on the outskirts look good but there is a lot that comes with living there. Natives know where not to move no matter how good it looks.
Peace and Blessings š¦¾
Just wait till a direct hit of a Cat4 HURRICANE hit and all those 7 million ppl trying to evacuate....... Years age 60+ ppl died evacuating for a storm that didn't even hit. It's hot as hell and the traffic, OMG. It takes an hour to go anywhere in Houston. Floods everywhere, no mass transit system, no car *you dead in the water. It's all fun going to all the beautiful events until you realize you have an hour+ to drive home in traffic with road rage and guns everywhere . Oh I forgot, the TAXES on your home OMG - the hell with TX. But do you.
@Dickie9028Great info! Very detailed and you are šÆon all things as a NY who recently relocated here as well. Iām having a great experience thus far š
@peta-gayemccallaThank you for the info
Im thinking moving down there from ny
I appreciate the info
Nursing pay is terrible there
@nichellegaither8707Do you think Houston would be another LA or Atlanta ?
@yhungkaytvHey Tierra āŗļø you are so beautiful! Iāve watched both your videos related to moving to Houston & Iām intrigued!
This has been on my heart to do since 2020 & I still til this day wish I would of done it then. But, alas here we are.
I have two, maybe three questions.. How many times would you recommend a person go and visit Houston to get a feel of/tour potential living spaces?
Second, what camera do you use to record your YouTube videos & if you use a mic, which mic do you use? Or- Iām totally down to watching videos you may have viewed that teach about audio/editing š
I hope that was okay to ask! Keep shining hun! š¤©āØ
Thatās whatās stopping me from making the move to Texas. A JOB! ā¹ļøI am from NYC as well. I work here and canāt afford to quit , move , and not have a job.
@TheMsgodivaAs a fellow New Yorker, I heard Memorial City is best for the city/suburban life balance. Any thoughts on this being that you're from NY as well?
@tainayawhite4542this is very valuable information, thanks for sharing! i will be using it as a reference for my move to the area
@theunjadedgim a senior n college in massachusetts hoping to move to Houston š„² I pray this is my last full year in Massachusetts, there's nothing for me here
@Moll662In Cali people do not make eye contact with you and do not speak
At all!!
I am planning to move to Houston, Texas, in the Cypress area from Florida. I work from home. But I'm not sure about the risk; it is my first time making this big decision. Im really excited.
