The Cheapest Curry You’ll Ever Make —Costs Pennies… and Tastes Unreal!
Video Overview & Insights
This recipe is perfect if you’re cooking on a budget or want a cheap, fast, high-protein curry that fills you up, costing pennies. Lentils are one of the most affordable sources of protein, and when you cook them down with tomatoes and spices, they turn into a silky, comforting curry that feels like real comfort food.

Ingredients
This is basically a part of Indian cuisine
Curry Base
• Red lentils: 200 g | 1 cup UK | 1 cup US
In south indian households where its called dal/pappu we mix it along with rice or eat it with some bread, but its considered more of a side than a curry.❤
• Oil:1 tbsp | 3 tsp | 14 ml
• Onion, diced:1 medium (120 g | 1 cup UK | 1 cup US)
Yoo good presentation brother
• Garlic, minced: 2 tsp (2 cloves | 8 g)
• Ginger, minced: 1 tsp | 4 g
That looks really delicious. I'm having to penny pinch at the moment so this is ideal.
• Tin of tomatoes (diced or crushed): 400 g | 1½ cups UK | 1¾ cups US
• Tomato purée (paste): 2 tbsp | 30 g
i don’t think my nan will be happy to be butter brushed but that being said i ain’t the best at jokes either
• Water or stock: 500–600 ml | 2–2½ cups UK | 2–2½ cups US
Spices
I love pink lentils (Dahl) curry with boiled eggs in it. Definitely going try this recipe. Thanx👍 South Africa
• Curry powder: 2 tsp | 8 g
• Cumin: 1 tsp | 4 g
Where is the coriander, chile, garlic salt, dill and sweet spices, for instance ? Where is the chutney ? Just asking.
• Turmeric: ½ tsp | 2 g
• Paprika: 1 tsp | 4 g (optional)
That looks fantastic! I look forward to making it! Thank you so much.
• Salt: 1 tsp (adjust to taste)
• Black pepper: ½ tsp
WOW Lovely.
Optional (big flavour boost for pennies):
• Chili flakes: ¼–½ tsp
Lovely. This is basically how I make, nice and tasty and cheap and cheerful. I also make without lentils. Onions aubergine and okra yummy
• ½ stock cube (veg or chicken)
Naan
This is something i cook almost everyday..with different types of lentils..tastes yummy 😋 and super healthy since im a vegetarian, its also good source of proteins..
Try " misal pav" if you haven't made already..similar process just use sprouts..and some special spices..oh and "pav bhaji" i am sure, most people already make it...and "puri bhaji"😅😅
You cook amazing 👏 🤩 all this needs lots of patience!
Ingredients
• Self-raising flour: 200 g | 1⅔ cups UK | 1½ cups US
Naan bread is the chai tea of bread.
• Plain yoghurt: 200 g | ¾ cup UK | ¾ cup US
• Salt: ½ tsp
Brilliant, just found you simple and easy to follow thank you 😊
• Optional: 1 tbsp oil/butter for softness

Too much of tomato. One large fresh tomato or equivalent canned is more than enough.
