UPDATE: I got a $500 fine from Spotify through Symphonic Distribution.. They cooked me. Now I owe $500 to Symphonic, because they said all streams were “artificial” and the funny thing is that all the songs they flagged and fined me, are under their Discovery mode because I can see it on my distributor panel. So they are basically making profit illegally from small artists, not paying them unless they make 1000 streams but charging $10 per song flagged every month, and they don't provide proof, and you can't appeal. Even though I sent ALL the ads pictures, invoices, etc.
And ONLY Spotify did this. Apple Music, no problem, Deezer no problem, YouTube Music no problem, Pandora no problem...
PS: I requested to remove some old songs from 10 years ago and SPOTIFY FLAGGED THE SONG FOR ARTIFICIAL STREAMS EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE NO STREAMS IN THE LAST 6 YEARS. This is INSANE, can we sue Spotify as a group of people? I can't afford to sue them but they are killing my project with all these bulls$%t!!!!

I don't believe Spotify because with all tech, I know for a fact is not how, but when. Hackers will find a way to cheat the system. In most cases it's because the company has ignored, got cocky, or has flat out been brazen in its pursuit to get rich quick. Videogames are the perfect precursor to what Spotify is doing. UMG cannot save them either.

Thank you so much for your time and effort for sharing information! As another fellow musician, it was very discouraging when AI "creatives" surged. It's upsetting to see it degrading the works of human creatives out there, that worked hard, doing side jobs and investing in whatever they can to do what they love (in any artistic craft), after many years of hardwork, training and education.

I believe, with big business like Spotify, there is only power in numbers. If 100 of you listening decide to quit Spotify, it won’t matter to Spotify. They won’t even notice. It’ll take thousands to matter. Unless you know of a petition to blacklist Spotify, and share it so everyone can sign, and it actually goes to the right people, just keep your music on Spotify. How much are you losing vs gaining from the drop other than posturing and feeling empowered?

It's the same thing with YouTube Promotions - you pay for reach (which means your reach MUST BE restricted artificially to begin with) then you get exposure for a set amount of time and money (usually $500 per 50.000 clicks), but once the promotion period is through, your viewes go back to "normal". YouTube Analytics also provides no hard proof at all that these clicks weren't artitifial as well - meaning: just a number that's displayed, rather than actual people having watched your content. Because, even if you promote your content, people won't click it if the quality is not on a level they are used to. So YouTube has to deliver in exchange for your money, but you can't force clicks. So it is very likely that it's all fake clicks.

I haven't received a dime for my streams from Spotify since April of 2024. Now it just says, "Spotify Ineligible Stream". At this point they are no better than the record companies they replaced. I guess they took a lead from YouTube and put a "minimum" threshold for streams so they could screw all the small artists out of their royalties.

So, if i'm doing my math right... 37Billion streams across 33 months = Approximately 1,2 Billion streams a month, 37.4 Million streams a day, and 1.6 Million streams an hour. That's a lot and I'm not sure there are 1.6 million people up around the world at any given point listening to Drake. but Maybe???? Now they are claiming on Spotify his artist page has approx 80 million monthly listeners out of the 103 Million followers. 80million x those 33months (assuming they each listened once a month on that page) would equal around 2,6 Billion streams, and if they listened once a day (avg 30 days each month) = 79 Billion streams or thereabouts, about twice what the are claiming. Another way to look at it is those 80 million folks would have listened to him 462 times over those 33 months or about 14 times a month to reach the 37Billion number claimed. Is that feasible? maybe? I know this is rough math and assumes a lot, but I suppose they could have reached those numbers, but I'm not sure... it still feels a little fishy when i say 1.6 million people are listening to him every hour of the day ...The key seems to be in the sheer volume of listeners/followers. Are they all real? thoughts? Corrections on my math??

As a solo indie artist guy who doesn’t rely on music to pay the bills, I gotta say I’m still going to put my music out wherever I can. ESPECIALLY on the platforms where more people go to. I don’t get a lot of streams but I don’t work at getting noticed everyday either. I’m focused more on making more music on a regular basis & looking to play out live in person to get noticed more. That also gives me more options for selling merchandise to people that meet me in person. We can’t be focused on only being digital artists ESPECIALLY if AI is grabbing listeners attention more & more. Just my thoughts ❤️👊🏼

@marlanjn.baptiste8715As someone with 35 years in the industry — none of this is news. It’s been an open secret for decades. Sad, sure, but true. Nobody’s proud of it, yet the system’s always had a dirty undercurrent — the same old pay-to-play mentality, just dressed up for the streaming era.
Spotify isn’t the worst offender, but it’s easily the greediest. They’ve admitted plenty behind closed doors. And with so many streaming platforms competing for dominance, you can imagine where the money really moves. Anyone can buy hundreds of thousands of fake streams for pocket change online. The major labels do it too — at scale. That’s what keeps the platforms afloat, and why independent artists barely stand a chance.

@SailorsSkipperI can tell you right now that the artist Marsmello has fake views on YouTube. His were in the billions only after being out for 7 years. It would take 32 years just for a billion seconds to go by. So his were impossible to have that many views. Two of those videos were the same song even it's just, one was an official video and the other just the song. That's mathematically impossible. Especially since artist from the 80's who were on the platform when it came out, and with bigger hits, were only in the 100's of millions.

@mackienewmarkTwo worrying elements in this mess. 1. FAIRNESS - how many (and what percentage of) major label acts have had tracks taken down in the last five years, compared to indie acts? 2. Supposedly legit SPOTIFY PROMOTIONS like Discovery Mode can still lead to the track being picked up by bad curators and added to botted playlists - but acts are punished - not the playlists! It's an insane system that's now being challenged.
