📱 iPhone Parental Controls Made Easy (Step by Step Guide)

Video Overview & Insights

Worried about what your kids might be seeing on their phones? You’re not alone. In this video, I’m walking you through how I set up iPhone parental controls to help my kids use their phones safely and responsibly.

Thanks!

— @WarrenSwarthout

As a parent, I know how overwhelming it can feel to keep up with technology. But the good news? With the right settings, you can have peace of mind knowing that your kids are safe online. From setting Screen Time limits to using Family Sharing for app approvals, I’ll show you everything you need to know to stay in control.

What’s Covered in This Video:

Yeah, just be careful what kind of parents see this video, because there are a lot of parents out there that don't just do it for the sake of their kids' safety but more for control and narcissism.

I personally prefer shorter videos (around 5 minutes). Anything much longer starts to feel too long for my attention span, though others might enjoy it.

Plus, I’ll share why I believe setting healthy boundaries is more effective than banning smartphones altogether. This approach isn’t just about restrictions — it’s about teaching kids how to have a positive relationship with technology.

How do you restrict them from changing the Apple Id account?

Hey! Late diagnosed adhd’er finding your video on the approach to the eldest going to high school. Does this work with a pay as you go sim or just contracted numbers? It is my old device currently without a sim, although I am trying to avoid being tied into another monthly direct debit. More so in the event of the phone being lost early days as he’s as scatty as I am 🤦🏼‍♀️

2 things: 1st, how do you keep them from using the photo and editing aspect when on downtime? For kids with obsessions even this can keep them up for hours into the night. 2nd) kids seem to be able to find loopholes to make things work that shouldn’t. How do we prevent these?

Thank you so much that was really useful.

Ive got an android ive got my child an iphone , I have an old iphone 11 , can I use this to set this up by using wifi and not having to take out a contract on my spare iphone ?

@Stunl3y

Andorids Family Link is 3 times better than Iphones. With Iphone kids are still able to play around wiht system stuff, while family link can block the whole screen during the downtime.

Hi glad I ran into you. Here’s my dilemma. My son told me he needed google in order to access google classroom so he can attach photo to his photography class. After that I was not able to prevent him from using search engine. As you know google does not protect children from third party website. Do he was able to save porn site through google and bypass YouTube time restriction. So even though he has restrictions for YouTube in apple parental control features. Thanks (sarcastic) to google he was able to have more time. How can I stop all search engine so he can’t go the back door way to bypass restrictions.?

Is there a way to add the controls if my daughter is already on the family, I don’t see any options. She already has her own Apple ID

Liked this video a lot! to refresh my knowledge on the parental controls....actually, i did all these kind of settings already in the past.. but it seems still there is some way to bypass the downtimes even. any idea how this could happen?

Nice video but unfortunately screen time is so full of bugs that even apple technicians struggle with it. I spent over 4 hours getting support from apple help and it still has problems. If you just set it up as described in this video it may seem to work however a few tests quickly reveal that all sorts of adult content can still be accessed.
Not the fault of this video, it’s pretty spot on. Unfortunately apples service is really lacking

What I really like this video is that you give recommendations about how you manage the settings and what considerations you make for your children—including the conversations you have with them. Too many videos just on the software, which isn’t helpful. And I appreciate you helping us think through different scenarios. I am curious at what age and maturity level you start opening up more independence and settings. My somewhat older child tends to be more addicted to the screen and videos, and I am not letting them have a smartphone yet. I’m watching this video to see if I’m comfortable to move forward giving them an iPhone, or if I should just go with a dumb phone like the LightPhone. Thanks again.

This is def not effective for any child who is able to google search and read. Do yourself a favor and google “how to get around screen time limits on iPhone” or “how to disable parental controls on _<input your device here; iPad, tablet, Samsung phone>_”. You’ll be SHOCKED by what you’ll see

This was awesome thanks so much, I definitely learned a lot and will be putting limits on my phone. My children don’t yet have phones but this is amazing and I won’t be afraid once they do get them. Thanks so much for this
