Cliff what is that ?
How advanced was the Calibra?
How does it compare to other race cars?

It would be awesome to have a video from you on the c class DTM from the ITC, and even the Alfa and its changes with the ITC rule set. It’s hard to find any information on these things to this depth, this is the best video / resource I’ve found on these fascinating cars. Probably my favorite race cars of all time

Would love to see a EV remake of the Calibra.

Fun fact: the Calibra did not have GPS, in an interview Uwe Alzen mentioned they programmed the system per racetrack by putting in the meter distances from corner to corner

I wonder how much of that Norisring lap time difference is down to tire advancements, and not the cars themselves.

Not just these air ducts behind the radiators but they also have these blades in front of the radiators and these work as a shutter, so they reduce the drag on straights, you can also find them on some modern road cars to improve fuel efficiency and you can also find them in some vintage cars from the 50s or 60s to be used in the winter.
You may also see some people in countries with harsh winters that seal/cover a part of their front grille so the radiator gets less cold air, I would be careful with that because modern cars have a bunch of sensors placed in the grille.
Opel engines are top not consuming oil
@CT-zc6neIt's a great high reving car to drive in Gran Turismo simulator 😮😮 great video again, like all of them 😅 power packed with information, with no wasted time, am always disappointed at the end, cause it was so good, and you make subsequent update videos on the same car, have watched sooo many in the last 24hrs, while I haven't been able to sleep, thanks heaps for all the info 🤯🤯 great work!
@CraigLandsberg-lk1epI saw those calibras cars 1996 in Helsinki Thunder competition live when i was about 13y
@mixe1I had a stock one and absolutely loved it!🥰
@hinterseerheroldHad no idea these cars were this insane lol I just thought they looked good
@RB26_2JZGTEthis car was so sexy that time!
@polishsissysaraI hope Opel can learn something from this and bring a supercar for its brand, because for me also i thought of it as some random German small car manufacturer. Also if it was continued and developed more till today then it would have been on the same level as a GTR.
@pralhadmundargi6503I watched the '96 race at Interlagos with a friend. It blew our minds... every gear shift had such a distinct BOOM sound attached to it. It felt like something had exploded in the car. And that's coming from a guy that watched F1 at that same circuit at least 5-6 prior to that.
@edpereira74887:48 THE CALIBRA KNOWS WHERE IT IS BECAUSE IT KNOWS WHERE IT ISN'T
@xxDON_CHEMAxxI always loved this car since I first saw it in early Gran Turismo games, but I had no idea it was this technically advanced! Wow!
@bolttracksLoved the Calibra and the Alfa DTM! Great video!
@uh1200👍
@peterkiro2132The 1997 Calibra with the full-carbon body would have been a another groundbreaking step!
Keep in mind you could have run two F1 teams for the price of one DTM/ITC team at that time. And becaus there was also competition between two tyre companies, but also had no limit in testing they did a different tyre compound for every track. The Opel had a hydraulic system which they used for everything in that car, like the weights, the flaps, everything they figured out that would improve perfomance by moving it during a lap, they put a hydraulic system on it and automated it.
Like said in the video, a spin would get the systems off sync with the track, but because the system took the distance as reference to know where the car is on the track and, as far as i know, not realy a GPS. The system was reset everytime it crossed the line by a signal from the box, so if the car had a spin it was off sync just till it crosses the line again.
I own Opel Calibra 2.0 16v 4X4 for future project! 😉
@deagt3388How did the 1995 cars compare to the 2023 GT3 cars used in DTM for lap time?
@Cloxxkiimmer wen ich die bei der v8 dtm classik gefaren sind, war es geil
@LudusArtifexMy peaceful 2.0 16V (that I still own) is the base for this monster?
I always loved the Calibra, but didn't knew it was this advanced.
Truly the pinnacle of touring cars.
@autosundspiele1602My cool pot dealer uncle had a calibra with under glow early 2000s I was 13 or so felt so cool in the calibra going to fetch weed and hide it on my child frame so the police can't search me. Luckily they never tried cos looking back I bet the police can search a minor if they want to. Early 2000s or not.
After the calibra which I eventually realised was just a glorified cav. Not even a turbo so it lost its appeal. Then my uncle swapped it for an mr2 90s edition but again plain base version T top auto I think. But still an mr2 so F it. He got a 2nd and it had jap manga painted all over it. The bonnet a big manga girl. Dragons down the sides it looked stupid even to me. Then he swapped that for a white one. But ended up to be a bag of 💩 compared to the manga mr2 which was mint bar paint. The white one looked nice but broke down often.
I tried to tell him GTS. Turbo. Anything but Auto wtF.
The reason the Omega never used the 4.0 is because that wasn't a production engine. There was no three liter limit. Audi's 3.6 V8 proves as much.
@dylansmit3883The 1990s was the last truly great era of touring cars, maybe even motorsport in general.
@SMlFFY85Yes, I always liked Calibra, especially, the 16-valve and AWD ones.
@mohmoudfarah1897I owned a Calibra that had the Super Boss motor.A beautiful car and drove amazingly
@robertmizen9151so cool
@carljuztine3328Der Calibra war der geilste - Da bekomme ich heute noch Gänsehaut
@dampfdirk5983What is that black thing mounted on the front left corner, near the hood, of the Isuzu SUV at 4:45? If you know what it is, please also mention how it's used. Like if it's a mirror or light, what's its purpose?
@zlm001Can you make a video about the 240 dtm car
@noahsson00wow that really is very high tech! i thought it would be similar to the alfa 155 or mercedes C-klasse but no.
@oscarzt1652Damn, Opel was way cooler back in the time
@Unknown-rk9qmA flag marshall once told me that a burning Calibra could be difficult to put out with a single extinguisher because the fuel balancing system would continue to balance the fuel even though it was burning. So it was possible to have a situation where the system would just squirt flames around, reigniting tanks/parts.
