00:00 - 5:15 Betting $4.5 million on the Super Bowl

As an accounting major at the university of Illinois i do have to say I agree with Mr Walters about dishonesty w/ stocks/books being cooked way more than fixed action in sportsbooks

— @igorslocks

5:16 - 14:53 Referees Betting on Games

This guy is just a addict trying to justify it.

I wonder if his opinion has changed at all in the past couple years with how much bigger gambling has gotten/the fact gambling sites sponsor leagues now

Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.- Paul Newman - The Color of Money

Core difference

1) Sports betting = short-term gambling
• Outcome: Uncertain, based on single events (games, injuries, refs, luck).
• Odds: Designed so the house always has an edge.
• Time horizon: Minutes to days.
• Expected return: Usually negative over time.
• Risk: High chance of losing money permanently.
• Emotion factor: Very high (tilt, chasing losses, excitement).

Bottom line:
Fun entertainment… but mathematically built to drain money long term.

2) Index fund investing = long-term ownership
• Outcome: Based on growth of the entire economy/stock market, not one event.
• Edge: Historically positive over decades (~7–10% average yearly before inflation).
• Time horizon: Years to decades.
• Expected return: Positive over time if you stay invested.
• Risk: Short-term drops, but low risk of permanent loss when diversified.
• Emotion factor: Lower if you ignore daily swings.

Bottom line:
Boring… but statistically one of the most reliable ways to build wealth.

Simple analogy
• Sports betting:
Like playing roulette hoping to win tonight.
• Index funds:
Like owning the casino over 20+ years.

Money math reality

If someone:
• Bets $100/week on sports
→ likely loses most of it over time.
• Invests $100/week in an index fund at 8%
→ could grow to *$75,000 in 10 years*
→ ~$260,000 in 20 years

Same money. Opposite direction.

Billy Walters owns Bali Hai Golf Club out here in Las Vegas. We've met a few times in the clubhouse, and he is a really humble guy. He is the GOAT of sports betting. Pick up his book Gambler Secrets from a Life at Risk. The math he uses is incredible.

Gambling is just as bad as a drug addiction... I don't care who you are or how much money you have.... It's an empty and dark lifestyle

@franklukas4527

Bro ive turned Sports Betting into a successful business n i don't even watch the games. There's certain Systems u can follow for example if u bet EVERY UNDERDOG in MLB EVERYDAY at the end of the season you'll have hit between 40-47% of ur bets and because ea h of those hits were +money you'd be in the profit I made $19,000 profit that way last season on MLB Alone.

Legalizing gambling changed things . . .

@Earl_not-oil

If the "house" didn't win most of the time, we wouldn't HAVE gambling. Let that sink in.
