Totally foreseeable. AND Tesla tried the simple route this time: No speed input. This is not going to fly and the need to figure out how to create an AI model in which there is space for human input with limitations like "This is a 30 zone, never ever allow over +20% even if a human wants to crash into a house and kill a grandma." Needs to be done. These are killing machines which need hardcoded limits and safety but human input needs to be possible too. Regulatory bodies will not agree otherwise or - put it differently - this was an open invite to reject an otherwise great solution.

It's allowed to have a dumb speed holder locking in at 200 km/h on any road. But you can't have an intelligent system locking onto a speed slightly higher than the speed limit? The french logic here is on par with a snail.

Totally agree with your thoughts on how politics and protectioism is getting in the way of road safety. Regarding speed, I have passed an advanced driving test in the UK (twice now) where the examiner was a serving police persuit driver. The method of driving follows what is know as police roadcraft which advocates adhering to the speed limit. I have AP in my car currently set with no offset and use the skills I have learned to drive safely under all circumstances. I believe (but please don't quote me on this) that our speed cameras may be set to something like 10% +2 over the speed limit before you will get a ticket. However, when it comes FSD (supervised) I can understand that setting an small offset within this limit would allow for a much smoother drive.

@SoughanunnaI suggest you take a look at teslatobi's last video. He found what France and Sweden found is all about FSD's the speed limit adaptation, in the case of Mad Max up to 50% - so, 75 instead of 50 km/h. In Switzerland, 30 km/h over the limit not only gives you a picture, but also lets you lose your driver's license. On the spot, for a long time.
