I'm vaguely pissed that you found more street art in two visits than I have found in 8 year of one to three month visits a year. My first visit was three months and on my last day, I was still finding new things. This year I found the Philosopher's garden in Buda and I have 10 days left. I plan better than you. I always get an elevator, two bathrooms and as close to an American kitchen as is available. Art museums. Classical concerts at Liszt house. Great proteins (pork, duck and goose) and better produce. Wonderful bread, wine and beer at a price that is embarrassingly low. Because of my age, public transport (efficient and clean) is free for me.

The first time I came here, almost ten years ago, anyone over 40 spoke Hungarian and Russian Now, everyone under 50 speaks Hungarian, English, probably German and maybe Spanish

This is my favorite city in Europe. I would and I do take it over London. Paris and Rome I might go to Glasgow or Prague

I live in Dublin, and everywhere I go everything seems cheap. Budapest is super expensive, and the mentality of the people is third-world. On top of that, there are government scammers in public transport tricking tourists who are willing to spend their money there.

Do not buy any Hungarian paste if you have hand luggage. They'll take it away at the airport anyway.

As for the disliked/hated things - from a persons perspective who is from Budapest:
1, The drug stuff is probably true, but I never encountered it, so probably they offer it to tourists. Budapest is generally safer than other big cities/capitals, but there are some sketchy people, so know where you are and be alert. 99% won't encounter any issues, but be smart! Especially at night or on public transport which goes through not so good neighborhoods

2-3, About the entrances and lifts - these are true for old buildings in district 7, 6, 5 mostly (Jewish quarter, city center), but in general we have lift in most buildings. Some older buildings might not have it, but I rarely was in a building which doesn't have one (but I was never in an airbnb in Budapest, so they might be different :))


4, Totally true, there are a ton of tourist traps. Gozsdu and Karaván are not tourist traps though...just expensive and hip places - definitely overpriced, but not only targeting tourists :D. Be aware of Hungarian flagged, huge GOULASH word everywhere places, where the menu is by default in English - those will charge you most likely 16-18$/€ for a goulash soup (which should be between 7-10$/€ in reality)

5, It's true...at least for Parlament and some places. But there are plenty of green spaces where you can go everywhere - like Margit sziget, Városliget (Margaret island, city park), or also some smaller parks.

+1 tip and what I hate: Be aware of dog poop...there are really clean streets, but some places in the city center or nearby will have streets full of dog poop (not worse than in Italy, France or Spain, but probably a lot worse than Vienna or other neighboring countries/big cities)

+1 for the good stuff: Hungarian cuisine is interesting and you should check it...but Hungarians rarely eat goulash and chimney cake :) you should try Hungarian dishes, but feel free to try other cuisine too. Budapest have one of the most multicultural, vibrant food scene (apart from NYC). Also the quality is usually really high - do not hate me, but often it's much better than the original in my opinion :D so eat some Middle Eastern food, Italian, Spanish, Asian food too while you're here. We have great for the sweet toothed persons too! Just investigate beforehand and go to the better places

All in all, I agree with everything you said and it is a valid representation of Budapest.
BTW - We are friendly, and like tourists who are interested in our cities, culture and in us...but please act respectfully towards locals. If you want to come for sightseeing - great...but we hate pub-hoppers, drinking tourists and bachelor(ette) parties and if you are being loud and obnoxious, you'll get a stinky eye or locals will scold you

Two more. First, mass transit in Budapest is free for seniors (65+). Carry your PP to show proof of age. Second, if you pay for something in Euros, they give the change in Hungarian currency (HUF). HUF devalues quickly due to inflation. Best to use credit or debit cards.

You are very hard to follow and your speedy vocal made me tensioned.

The reason they don’t allow dogs is because if they do it will turn into a giant litter box FULL of dog poop. If you don’t believe me please visit Belgrade , and to a lesser extent Sofia where you definitely cannot walk on the grass without having both shoes covered in dog poop even if you think you avoided it all. It’s terrible!!! I. Asian countries people actually clean up their pets dog poop so you can have dogs and clean grass. The worst is having shoes covered in dog shit whenever you try to enjoy nature.

Do you really think that those 150 yo neo-renaissance buildings where 15 years ago families lived now just ruins and it is okay ??? Do not go there if you like Budapest.
