José Alberto has fascinated tacticians for years with a distinct positional approach that often challenges conventional attacking logic. His teams regularly prioritise control, occupation of key central spaces, and structured movements over traditional width or symmetry. In this video, we break down Racing Santander’s attacking structure to understand how these ideas translate on the pitch, and where they create both advantages and limitations.

Racings issue isnt the system, its player selection and scouting. If they pivoted to two players familiar with the inverted wingback position and played those as wingers a very large part of their problem goes away. Like really, its a mindset mismatch by playing full (inverted) wingers that struggle to anticipate play defensively. Play someone that is used to that mindset and the problem goes away. But yeah, good luck finding those as a segunda team.

KEEP UP TO DATE

There is a novel series from an author called ted steel, he published a few books already, its called player-manager / soccer supremo, player manager is 15 books long and is a sort of "first part" of the story. The main character after a few books becomes a manager, and his philosophy tilts toward relationism, its fucking incredible. I've been out of touch of football for a few years now, this series singlehandly made my youtube algorythm have this kind of videos, check it out if you want. You can start with soccer supremo if you want to get to the "high level matches" from the get go

Probably is because that team played 14 games with one player more than the rival. xD

My club were doing this back in 1988 when I played for the Macquarie Fields Flyers Under 5s 😜
I think the formation was to referred to by one of the parents as 'like a swarm of hornets' 😆

I've been teaching 'no position' football for ten years. Problem you have are fellow coach's who can't or refuse to understand and will actually work against you. Then you have clubs and academies that need to learn why this is so advantageous when coaching from 6/7 ( sadly most are kick and run son, acadamies have nothing ) upwards which is a must as it is done alongside technic. To be fair the Netherlands do this when Young as do Spain and Portugal to a lesser extent. The idea isn't new it IS total football. Slot has a problem with space and set pieces in defence because these players aren't the one's needed for his limited total football he's trying to get to. It is one of the reasons why LFC go from beating the best then drawing or losing to the average in the EPL NEC play this way as do Middlesbrough to a lesser extent.

Racing Santander is a historic club in Spanish football. In 1928, when LaLiga was created, Racing was part of the initial group of 10 teams that competed in the first season (1928-29), along with FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Athletic Club, Real Sociedad, Arenas Club de Getxo, Real Unión, Atlético de Madrid (Atlético Aviación 1939/47), RCD Espanyol, and Club Esportiu Europa de Barcelona.
In total, Racing has played 44 seasons in the first division and 39 in the second division.....and it's my dearest club🥰

It's been wonderful to see football managers adopt ideas such as flooding areas to open up space behind or in front, manipulating defenders. There's a fair amount of overlaps between association football and gridiron football.
