Why social media tips for artists DON'T work
Video Overview & Insights
I am often asked "How to grow on Instagram as an artist" (or Twitter). I feel artists are too focused on following tips. And remember, it's never a good idea to use social media as your only source of validation! While the social media tricks work as a multiplier, I believe it's more important to focus on your personal growth.

Bad at drawing what??
@elsatshona9004I'm tired of ts. I'm tired of making a brand of my art. I now post on my main account which yeah ppl can see me as a person i am irl and also the stuff I draw too, it feels more relaxing that way
@faradaysql5:16 the jumpscare wasn’t necessary
@khabns8622> Viewer: Do you need to have a "consistent" theme, like ou get popular from drawing lots of fan art, if you then decide to draw a realistic background or food or something, would that do worse?
> 2024 Pikat: Yes
2026 Pikat: draws an egg, gets surprised by the metrics
Apparently not, lol
hello everybody my name is Marki 1:50
@lsddfklsdfoUnc, I need money 😭
@eliasromero2429Man if that was not bad not good art, what the hell is mine 😂😂😂
I did recently return to fundamentals so here's hoping
Ur not only a good conten creators teacher but also a great math teacher !
@Rereyome1What app do u use for animation ?
@Rereyome1So basically, draw and post whatever you want, but fanart will give you good numbers and an audience growth? I’m a bit slow to this, was my assessment correct? :0
@EnriqueAlbertoMonteroMuñozSo....growing your social media presence is like the advice for finding a partner: "stop obsessing over getting a girlfriend and start thinking more about yourself and growing as a person", applied to art?!
@vegataylorsergio7597to.. just.. GIT GUD at art
@bumaga3000Thank you so much for this video 🙏🙏
@ultimatetokyo2004Do work to make the snow ball run. We are all nobodys until a Little push, then you can relax a Little
@pera3DI do toy photography and stop animation. And I am struggling to find any sort community. I've always heard to make art for yourself first. But even still I feel like nothing catches up with anyone. I mean, I not looking to be a huge artist. But it would be nice to have others to converse with on it.
@Hell-RoseThere's a population of 8 billion. Out of that huge number, there should be a few million people who love stick people art. In other words, artist shouldn't have to please everyone, but only please those who appreciate their art.
@genxlifethis is too wrong tbh, just luck. i was popular being a beginner. got banned, crash out and deleted everything else. but never stopped drawing. after 5 years im pro, won;t be ashamed of this word. i draw a lot of fandom stuff and intaractions, esp what i like about my art is cool angles, perspective and the style itslef. should i say that i earned 1 follower on each of social media and 20 on tiktok? or that my illustrations don't get even a like anywhere, i don't eve see myself at the tag feeds. That's very funny that i was popular being bad as hell and now i can't get a like even on tiktok. i've tried so many things
@ctk-g5rMe casually posting storyboard drawn traditionally online once: No one likes it, barely any views.
Me: Still laughing at my own work because I find it funny.
I hate how much I care about being famous. I get so frustrated that I spend so much time in animations and art just to get 800 views MAXIMUM and I try to think “Oh hey! If 800 people walked up to you and said your video is cool you’d probably piss yourself and die because that’s awesome” but it really just doesn’t work, I just want to be noticed. I see so many people, my inspiration get thousands of views per video and I can’t do that? My only famous videos are the ones I spent no time at all on. I do hope this video helps one way or another
@strangecoinyI just post it for random strangers going "WOOOAAAAHHOHHO I LOVE YOUR ARTSTYLE I WISH I HAD IT YOU'RE MY FAV ARTIST!!"
@KhairiiIronically10:30 NO IT FEELS LIKE THIS FOR ME SO MUCH. i used to draw a ton of battle cats fanart a long time ago and was super active in the fandom. I ddi draw a few things not related to that which flopped sort of but it took me a while to realize why exactly. now that i havent been drawinf battle cats at all basically nobody sees my art and it sucks a lot
@petscopstanthank you, this really helped me
@ChocolatebananamilkLuck.
@redpartistHmm, what do you do if you have zero followers and want to start an account, and you can also draw decently well and post finished art?
Even if you post on twitter no one will see them right? Would hashtags help most in that situation?
So.... I'm boring
@drekllord5963thank you!
@FutureKoriThis video really opened my eyes. Thank you Pikat, and i meant it. Ive been so obsessed over followers that my mental health was declining. My end goal wasnt to be a youtuber so i put pressure on myself for nothing. I want to become a mangaka and ill probably do fanart of anime i like and not care about how many likes i got.
@DaO2442whats the bird on top of you doing bru lollll
@toranyaoHow she makes that character
@BharathKulkarni-hp5ieDoes posting 3 short forms on social media (yt, insta, tiktok) per week for a year help you grow followers in social media? Yes. Does it make you grow as an artist, esp your skills in drawing/painting/sculpting etc? No. Not a lot anyway.
Following these guidelines is really about trying to get these social media to push their algorithms automatically for you. But if you're shit at what you do then these followers will either drop off anyway, or not interact with you, and therefore the algorithms will die down eventually.
That's why you should always focus more on upgrading your skills, whatever vocation you choose. Have social media be like a lil visual diary into your authentic growth in skills. You don't have to focus on being "marketable" or "entertaining". Just be yourself.

@koda800what if this was y 13th reason? (jk I'm trying to get into social media but it's rough, thank u for the advice <3)
@nanabun2426I often ask myself if I'm fishing for compliments or fame, I just want people to see my art and appreciate it.
@TestedAccount-v2jBro, I just want to have artist friends. Why does it have to be so hard? Lol
@TaqueriaDonSalamiDamn, Ive been posting art for 6 years and average about 15 likes. I must be absolutely horrible. Both in value/appeal and skill.
@jenakin_skywalkerDamn, every time I come across videos like this, I always hope to hear some kind of revelation from heaven, lol. But alas, simple truths, as usual, are not that bad. I've been drawing for about 8 years now, and I have absolutely no audience, which is natural, I'm incredibly bored drawing fanarts, trending things, memes, I just love making original characters. But after many anxious and depressing years, I finally just accepted the fact that it's important to do what I like personally, and not for some audience.
@rory_rory_07What exactly are base stats?
@camillagriffith5604i don’t wish for fame, i just want to catch up to my friends who have 2k and 200. i only have 166
@shortiie_cakeSo yeah, but ain't, and appeal, got it.
@Pared_verdeIts funny hearing her voice change from formal Youtuber voice to casual streamer voice lol.
@rynlikesdrawingHypothetically, I'm an artist who draw for hobby in private for 35 years who almost never posts his art and has no social media. Now I want to begin a social media, where and how do I start?
My avatar icon is my drawing.
5:06 as a professional doomscroller character interractions are really cool and cute to me,i would LOVE to see more and when i do see charcters interracting i IMMEDIATELY like it
@antalzetasharable content = popular content
@Jisu-q1fIt depends on what you plan to do with your art. I barely have followers online but was able to work in the entertainment industry and earn decently. Does it mean if I post my portfolio online that everyone will flock it and I will have massive followers? No, and that is the same with artists with large followers online. It doesn't mean they are employable in lets say Game industry, animation, or comics. What I learn is you have to know who your crowd/audience is. Personally, growing online audience is too tiring for me than just improving my portfolio to be a more employable artist. But again, it depends on what you really want.
