Why are Leica cameras so expensive?

It is crazy to me that Leica released a consumer grade 35 mm camera shortly after WWI then there were decades of polaroid nonsense as the standard. Yes, getting your photo quickly was a nice thing, but overall the quality is worse, and by the 90's, no one was using polaroids. They were using disposable cameras (shooting 35 mm) or SLRs, neither of which gave you instant results.

You said the camera was released to the public in 1945. But that was after Oskar died.

Just an FYI, flange distance has no bearing on chromatic aberrations, vignetting or 'distortions'. There are some advantages in terms of lens design and interchangeability to other lenses but what you're spreading is a myth that dentists with shelf Leicas have spread for decades. It's not true.

The company was founded in Wetzlar, Germany, moved temporarily to Solms (1986), and later (2014) returned to Wetzlar, where they are still located and have established a very modern Leica center: Leitz Park

Stranger, If you happen to read this. Don't get a Leica, its stupid. Not worth the investment, buy a 2nd hand camera like a Nikon D5100 and just start shooting whatever you see. It's gonna end up on instagram anyway and you'll be competing with a grandma and her iphone, dont get a leica.
