Who will be president in 2028? We made our picks. | America, Actually
Video Overview & Insights
Who has a good shot at becoming president in 2028? Vox Media podcaster and journalist Kara Swisher and independent journalist and political commentator Don Lemon join Vox’s Astead Herndon for a fantasy draft of the Democratic and Republican fields, making the case for who could emerge as each party’s nominee.
So much of this is unserious.
Why even bother to post it?
They debate everyone from JD Vance and Kamala Harris to Tucker Carlson and Lemon himself, while discussing the issues that are shaping the next presidential election, including electability, Donald Trump’s influence and who can actually win in an ever-evolving digital media landscape.
00:00 Why the 2028 race could be the messiest yet
This is played as a joke, and that is where it stayed.
02:24 The Republican fantasy draft
04:13 Is Marco Rubio the GOP's safest bet?
So the goal was to make a deadly serious process into a game? What a waste of time.
05:35 The surprising case for Tucker Carlson
07:12 JD Vance divides the panel
If it's going to be an outsider, I think Jon Stewart could be a good option. He's already quite politically involved, but he's also a comedian, giving him the edge on reading a room and and thinking fast on his feet during debates.
09:09 RFK Jr., Donald Trump (again), and the outsider candidates
12:55 Could Ivanka Trump inherit the MAGA movement?
Beyond the quality of the debate here, the title is simply incorrect. Unless something happens (possible), Trump will be president for all of 2028. It's pretty elementary civics that the winner of the election won't be in office until 2029. Pretty basic error there, why should I take this seriously when things like that are slipping through?
14:37 The Republican long shots
18:05 The Democratic fantasy draft
Stop pushing Kamala on us again. She's great but no, next
19:00 Gavin Newsom or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Who’s the No. 1 pick?
21:35 Can Kamala Harris make a comeback?
Love you vox but this video / format isn’t it
24:15 Mark Cuban, Wes Moore & other outsiders
28:30 Don Lemon’s wildest 2028 pick? Himself.
If Trump blew up our democracy (3rd term attempt), do you think Israel, AIPAC, ADL, etc would support him?
30:36 Josh Shapiro and the moderate lane
32:55 George Clooney enters the draft
I loved this show! Fun, witty, and informative. I love the creativity
34:35 Raphael Warnock and the final picks
37:15 What we learned about the 2028 race

I like Clooney, but we have had an actor become our president before, and it didn't work out so good in hindsight. Let's not do that again, okay?

These are the most unrelatable folks to talk about politics, Mark Cuban and Kamala?
Or Twitter: http://goo.gl/XFrZ5H
Before watching I just know this is going to say absolutely nothing thought provoking abt any of the candidates. Particularly on the left abt AIPAC and their record with the systems of power like the police and mass surveillance type stuff

Oh how Vox has fallen.
@alexmazzarelli8792Is there a world in which Vance's prospect of being Trump's chosen successor that he resigns in order to have some credibility in a kind of "new direction" lane in 2028?
@CaffeineAndContemptThis is hard to watch. Liberals still don’t understand that centrism and Zionism are the anchors around the party’s neck.
@thatone_overthereIt's sad when people think they are funny when they definitely are not 🚫 messy queens, pot calling the kettle black 🖤
@michaeldrewembrey2662Democrats are cooked, they Gavin newscum, Kamala and AOC. Three of the dumbest people on earth. Next president will be JD vance and marco rubio as VP.
@ethanlee7662You know, maybe looking at elections like sporting events, and generally treating politics like sports entertainment, is part of the problem and encourages harmful comparisons both publicly and especially in media coverage.
@park2spWow this is way out of touch.
We want someone who cares about us. Not Don freaking Lemon
All 3 of these guys are out of touch and have no understanding of the macros that move American Politics today. So sad because Vox was my favorite news network that brought that insight.
Also no Ro Khanna, no rahm Emmanuel, No Andy beshear, Cory Booker, Gallegos, Mark Kelly.
Instead we got:
- A non resident political outsider: Clooney
- A 3 time geriatric candidate: Donald Trump
- A political commentator that doesn't take the situation serious: Don Lemon
- etc etc
Georgia needs Warnock and Ossoff in the Senate. Those are 2 reliable seats we can't afford to lose so neither should run.
@tatyanaadams9522haven't watched the video yet, but why George Clooney in the thumbnail, lol, he's not someone involved in politics, lol, also, he'd have to give up his French nationality that he "worked soooooo hard to get" (lol, speaking myself as an immigrant to France that's still kind of peeved)
@aeolia80Being equivocal on Gaza is not going to play well in 2028. If a Dem is going to run, they need to be crystal clear and convincing about their position.
@sunblock8717Some really strange takes in this video.
@sunblock8717They didn't even mention Ro Khanna and Rahm Emanuel, who I believe have 10x more electability than Don
@AmikYoungDonNewsom will not be the nominee. Harris is the front runner but everyone is ignoring that data in an attempt to prop up Gavin. Ossoff is not running it’s time to move on.
@DaniloLozanoooHarris 2028
@DaniloLozanoooAOC 2028 is the only option and don't let these out-of-touch liberals convince you otherwise
@RameSuliemanProof liberals are just as out of touch as conservatives. AOC 2028 is the only option
@RameSuliemanAOC is the only option
@RameSulieman30:47 Shapiro has a photo of himself smiling and signing bombs that were sent to Israel for use in the genocide. Do they really think he's a good candidate?!
@wendyflores1092Disappointed to see this kind of content coming from Astead. His work on the Run Up did a great job cutting through the rose colored glasses of the DNC, giving insight to what real people thought about the election. This is just so out of touch, failing to discuss why certain people would or would not make effective candidates.
@callmetaters1103IT's gotta be Jon Ossoff he is a great talker and he is very charismatic. He has a really diverse base in Georgia, but he has also reached outside of his state to reach a lot of young voters already. He is Jewish with family in Israel but he has also frequently voted against Israeli weapons and for humanitarian aide to Gaza, way back in 2024. He is the perfect candidate because he understands self promotion but he also doesn't really have any baggage yet, which is good because someone like AOC will be run through the dirt by Republicans as they have already done. AOC needs to overthrow Chuck Schumer for NY senate and really shake things up in the senate. I think her specific talents would be wasted as president this early on, she should move into the senate. Ossoff is the same age but his strength is not message, it's messaging, and that is much more suited to president than anything else
@Stay_ZeroseIf a dovish Democrat like AOC is elected, they are especially likely to have to deal with a probing attack on a Baltic country or some other East European ally. (A bigger one than any we've seen so far.)
@ytqclysThe only democrat who could win the presidency is Michelle Obama . If she doesnt run the next US president will be Rubio !
@YoungnashyleeGimmie Stacey Abraham’s
@RoyalReachrThis is the commentary that the DNC needs to step away from, just the behind closed door mouth pieces
@LuckieWarriorIs the centrist Forward Party fielding a presidential candidate for 2028?
@Allegheny47No woman is going to win. America has shown us they are not getting out their homes to vote for a woman. It’s sad , will have to likely be some white guy (wether democrat or republican )
@JovansLorquetLet me be clear, as an Arab and a Muslim, Kamala Harris is toxic. Dems will lose Michigan if she is the nominee. And it will be particularly bad if the Rep candiate is Vance or Carlson. Muslim-Americans and Arab Americans will flip Republican in a heart beat.
@brotherluifyThese guys need to get out around the country and talk to normal Americans. They're practically the whole media establishment at one table!
@FranklyHermanI don't think they were serious about some of these picks. They were trying to be funny.
@ScottCP1What a joke if OC runs! She’ll be laughed out of the race! People WOULD actually leave the United States if she won !😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@TJPace-c6fmoderate slop picks all around 36:41
@CoyoteSenpaiWarnock should run……..
@blaze404WE WANT AOC
@nothingburger3000I loved everything about this episode!
@Alicia14kracial politics are racist. i dont support making the ticket another " we need to pander to identity" again. cmon dude be real...
