The Grand Canal is 3.8 kilometers long and winds in a reverse-S curve through the six historic districts of Venice, lined with more than 170 palaces from the 13th to the 18th century. This tour covers the Grand Canal twice and takes detours into the interior canals most tourists never see. Venice and its lagoon were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987.

Grazie mile for this video of one of the most beautiful and amazing cities in the world. I would love to visit, I've always had a deep love for the place. It makes me sad to know that overtourism is destroying the culture and forcing Venetians out of Venice. It seems to have become a theme park per say. It was a grand city built by Roman refugees from the mainland fleeing attacks from the Huns and Germanic tribes. Becoming the merchant, commerce, and trade capital of the European continent. I have deep connection to it, as i trace lineage back through many of the Doges of the Republic of Venice from medieval history.

Venice was built on 118 small islands in a saltwater lagoon at the head of the Adriatic Sea, and for centuries the Grand Canal served as its main thoroughfare. The Rialto Bridge, designed by Antonio da Ponte and completed in 1591, was the only crossing of the Grand Canal until 1854. Today four bridges cross it: the Rialto, the Ponte dell'Accademia, the Ponte degli Scalzi, and the Calatrava-designed Constitution Bridge added in 2008. The Squero di San Trovaso, visited at 2:04:43, is one of the last remaining boatyards in Venice where traditional gondolas are still built and repaired by hand.
