I know the E 46 is the best. Basically if you’re going to buy a new M car you might as well spend another 10,000 and get an E 46 as well what you’ll pay for the E 46 you’ll save in maintenance on the new car. It’s a win-win situation that’s what I’m looking into doing.

@Fatal_InertiaI own a ‘99 E36 M3 Coupé. Took it to Dinan Engineering back in 2001 and spent enough to get the Dinan badge installed on the rear right trunk lid. For those of you in the know, that’s a fair chunk of change. Carbon Fiber strut tower bars, European spec chip with no limiter, free flow exhaust, and a Vortec supercharger. Stock was 240 hp. Post Dinan was 360. I get asked to drag all the time at stoplights by idiots in lowered Honda Civics with coffee cans for exhaust tips. I smoke every one of them. The Japanese are the masters of the 4 with a high - rev powerband - but they wouldn’t know low end torque if it hit them in the Sushi rolls. Viva la BMW!!!

@jcojrDTGI can't believe that the E60 M5 is up so highly and the E90 and E36 weren't mentioned. Plus the F87 Comp is an instant classic. If the E46 M3 CSL is #1 then the reincarnation would be up there too.

@blues3531I’ve had three M5s (e39, e60, f10), an e46 M3, an f84 M4 competition convertible and, now, a g83 m4 competition convertible. Every one of them fantastic. The one I wished I’d owned is the e92 M3 with its 4.0 v8 engine.
