The Meaning and Reality of Individual Sovereignty

Corporations did not become people because of a few Supreme Court decisions. They became people because the entire post-1933 commercial framework is built on legal fictions. The corporation is a legal fiction. The all-caps name on your driver's license is a legal fiction. The trust accounts created in your name at birth are legal fictions. The Supreme Court did not invent corporate personhood out of thin air. It recognized what the commercial system had always operated on.

The video's solution is political. Get the right president, pass the right laws, appoint the right justices. But the problem is commercial not political. The same emergency powers framework that gave corporations their outsized influence has been renewed by every president from both parties since 1933 without a single exception. Changing who holds the presidency does not change the underlying commercial framework.

Jordan Peterson's point in the second excerpt is the more important one. The self-evidence of our equality before God, our unalienable rights, and the requirement for the consent of the governed. Those are not political principles. They are moral and commercial ones. Rights come from God not from corporations and not from governments. And equity jurisprudence is the legal framework that enforces that principle in actual courtrooms regardless of who the president is or what the Supreme Court says.

Same. The longer I listen to him straight, the more I want to cry because of the depth of the hell I have made on earth and the hope of the heaven I can build in fighting against the decay of my own agency.

Dr. Peterson was seriously unwell at this time and it shows - not in his ability to conduct a compelling lecture, but just in the graveness of his demeanour... he just seems consumed by darkness and discomfort - you can tell that it took a LOT for him to be able to get up on stage that night, and that he is not looking forward to whatever is coming after... likely because it was just more discomfort and unrest.

His wife was mortally ill with cancer at the time, and he had his own health issues taking a serious toll on him - health issues that at the time, had no clear origin, prognosis or even a name - He was unable to sleep for long stretches of time, he was consumed by an unrelenting anxiety that seemed appropriate in some sense given his wife's grave condition and indeed his daughter's issues as she was having operations being done to replace joints, and other rumpus... 

But the anxiety he experienced was unbearable as I understand it, and he had no energy and apparently just felt utterly dreadful for a long time - and this is all on top of the immense pressure he was facing from the lefty folks, journalists, etc who sought to tarnish and destroy his career and reputation at every given opportunity -

and so at some point earlier during all this chaos his doctor prescribed him a benzodiazepine - which eventually had a paradoxical effect on Dr. Peterson, worsening his condition and made it beyond unbearable and when he tried to cease using the Benzo given it wasnt helping anymore, he was thrust into the withdrawals - which are worse than opioid withdrawals by a mile and could easily be used as torture - ive experienced it and god help anyone who is in the midst of that hell... so this then completely ruined his health for the next 2-3 years and robbed him of any joy and he was essentially gone from public life for 2-ish years.

The "self-evidence" is primarily based on the exact sources you had just named. If it's rooted in Christian thought, and the actual Christian message was received as it had been intended from the existence of Christ (NOT the birth of the RELIGION), then the forefathers were constructing a new world based on the true Divinity residing with the individual as an opposition to the manner of rule that they had been subjected to by the powerhouse they were escaping. I.e; the monarchy or, in more modern terms, the government that escaped its original foundation to return back to an excessive abuse of power that we came here to escape...

Experiential reality is personal. In a allegory of what Jordan said: when someone is cut, they are the only one who bleeds.

This comment section is so full and colorful and it is fascinating, its like a collaboration. A collective intelligence naturally coming together all in one place, in one comment section, so many people made contributions and its sort of beautiful, because whether there are agreements or disagreements, everyone is still coming together in some sort of unity, interacting and sparking and sharing and giving and learning and educating and its like a puzzle piece of information, theres a lot here, loads of insight potential.

This is my favorite Peterson lecture. I’ve listen to all of them numerous times and this one stands out as particularly inspiring.
