Cleveland looks affordable on paper. Living here costs in ways no spreadsheet shows.
If you’re thinking about moving to Cleveland, you’ve probably looked at home prices, taxes, and listings.
I live in a suburb of Cleveland. I would never move here intentionally
What most people don’t calculate is the cost they feel after they arrive.
This video isn’t about Zillow numbers or budgeting strategies.
When I visited there it felt like a run down Pittsburgh, vast areas were post industrial wasteland with people building apartments and cheap track row housing.
❤
It’s about the real costs of relocating to Cleveland that don’t show up on a spreadsheet...lifestyle friction, emotional mismatch, climate reality, maintenance demands, seasonal expenses, and the quiet ways “cheap” can become expensive over time.
I’ve watched dozens of relocations go right…and wrong.
I left CLE in 2015. Thought about moving back from New York (lower Hudson Valley) and the cost isn’t any cheaper. It’s arguably more expensive to buy a 4 bed 2.5 bath home. Yes, taxes are cheaper (to a degree), but home ownership is not.
Not because people misread the numbers.
Because they underestimated the tradeoffs.

I moved out here a few years ago, and I've found my people and fallen in love with the city, but another big shock for me was how difficult it would be living in a city with a legacy of such horrific lead poisoning. It's both tragic and frustrating to live in a community with such profound and widespread mental and behavioral deficits.
