In full color, we see the marches, the speeches, and the military advances that seemed to confirm that illusion. However, behind each victory were hidden the first signs of wear and internal tensions that would soon take their toll.
As the conflict progressed, the German vision was transformed. The invasion of the Soviet Union, the failure in Stalingrad, and the constant allied bombings showed the population that the war was not just propaganda or easy triumphs. The color images reveal cities in ruins, families fleeing bombings, and exhausted soldiers on an increasingly hostile front. The German perspective was no longer that of a conquering people, but that of a nation trapped in a total war.

First of all.. England and France, together with Belgium, Hungary and surprise surprise Poland divided Czechoslovakia in 1938 (Munich summit). Neither USSR nor Czechoslovakia (yup) were invited to that summit. As a result most of Czechoslovakia went to Germany without a single shot fired, with smaller parts going to Hungary and to Poland. This literally forced USSR to sign a non-aggression pact with Germany, since after Munich it was clear USSR will most likely have to face Germany alone and they needed to buy time for military modernization. When in 1939 Germany invaded Poland, the ENTIRE government of Poland has fled their country. USSR has entered Poland at the official request of Polish communist party. Of course that was just an excuse. The real reason was getting territory back. If you didn't know (clearly so), Poland has invaded freshly formed USSR in 1919 with the war ending in 1921 and Poland getting a pretty nice chunk of European part of USSR. In 1939, all of those lands were taken back, plus a bit extra. Somehow in "western propaganda documentaries" these facts are never being mentioned.

While some of the stuff cool - like the footage, the fact that you mentioned the USSR invaded Poland etc.
I think this is hands down, far and away, the worst perspective documentary Iāve ever seen. Picture - Germany 1932 and a British guy is telling you what the Allies think the Germans are thinking. Thatās what this entire documentary screams - and Iām not here for it. You want a good perspective documentary? Go watch the āConfederate States of Americaā because thatās done properly. I really want to like this - but it gets a 2/10 from me.

The History Undone channel has largely debunked the idea of Blitzkrieg, seeing it more as a large scale enveloping operation at rapid speed. Also, I think it is misleading to say "attrition warfare" was the traditional tactic. I don't think any army anywhere wishes to engage in such warfare if it can successful outmanoeuvre their opponent or overwhelm them with superior firepower.

Also the the documentary is not really from a German perspective and most of it is not in colour. Apart from that not bad.

To me as an Eastern Slav - it is sickening to listen to those excuses that WWII was a consequence of injustice committed on "a poor German nation" by the Western powers in Versailles in 1919.
For god's sake, what do we - Eastern Slavs - have to do with it?

Why did you so savagely exterminate Eastern Slavic "untermenschen" en mass not your Western adversaries in Paris or Amsterdam?
Why did so many Western Europeans - your "former enemies" - voluntarily serve in the elite SS units. Yes, I am talking about you French, Belgians, Scandinavians, Dutch, Luxembourgians, Italians, Tyrolians ... Unlike you after the war we did not treat Germans... and Austrians like subhumans... Every Russian (Soviet) lost at least one member of her/his Family in WWII yet we did not seek revenge. Quite opposite. (Just ask all those Germans, who still remember who General Nikolai Berzarin or Sigmund JƤhn were.)
We did not conduct a deadly medical experiments (hypothermia, sterilization...) on your prisoners.
We did not use the blood of your children for transfusion to the wounded/operated on Soviet soldiers.
We did not sanction public executions by killing 100 German civilians hostages for one killed or wounded Soviet soldier.
We did not order you to dig your own graves.
We did not starve yoeru to death in ghettos.
We did not have the genocidal Einsatzgruppen - mobile death squads exterminating you in German/Austrian towns and villages.
We did not rob, strip, shave you before killing in gas chambers; we did not extract gold teeth from your dead.
We did not force you to wear an armband.
We did not force you to take the hats off in front of the Soviet soldiers.

The overwhelming majority of historians agree that the RAF was on its last legs and if Hitler had stayed the course instead of switching to bombing London and civilian targets the RAF would have broken very soon.
