I must say it's a bit excagerated thing to say it's some apocalyptic collapse in the sense of only the Hittites collapsing. Assyria, Mittani, Egypt, Babylonia and Elam all kept going. It's merely the collapse of one great empire, which was more a collapse of a feudal empire into civil war

Late bronze age collapse wasn't just civil unrest, as mentioned the environmental degradation, such as drought and failing agricultural systems, which would have amplified the impact of disease and further chaos. If you can't feed the people, unrest will certainly follow. Same kinda dark downward spiral happened after the western roman collapse in 470 AD aka the dark ages

@lorimillim913138:45 Damn, alright, the Hittites had a pretty badass religious system akin to Shinto, but earlier! Crazy to hear that not only were they religiously tolerant of other systems and pantheons, but actively incorporated their worship into their own. There's just something so neat about that. It's so easy to think of these time periods as pure desperation and prone to conflict at the slightest differences of culture.
Edit: Okayyyyyyy after this segment it is quite literally 500 straight years of nothing but conquest, and Sons, Daughters, Wives, Husbands, Nieces, and Nephews assassinating each other to take the throne. It was, in fact, nothing but conquest and war.
the wife of Ramses II was Nefertari, not Nefertiti. Nefertiti was the wife of Akhenaten.

@dohc_auI wonder why the Hittites didn't build Hattusa, their capital, somewhere along the banks of the Halys River?
Surely there's a convenient river bend that creates a goodly sized peninsula where a walled city could be built.
And up and down the banks, crops could be grown close by even during drought and mega drought times.
Imagine a world, where the Hittites survived as well or better than the ancient Egyptians.

@SpottySouloHi! And this is my last remark regarding "the Hittites"......Nefertiti was famous as the wife of the infamous Akhenaten about 1350 BC, whilst Rameses II had Nefertari Merimut, and after her Isetnofret as wife about a century later. 🌏
