The BEST PET SNAKE for HANDLING!

I have a cape house snake, supposed to be good to handle but I'm waiting for her to grow before too much handling.

I have a dumerils boa she is 5 now and I couldn't imagine life without her, it would be like losing one of my children simply amazing creatures

When I got a ball python I expected a little potato I could hang out with while watching movies and whatnot. What I got instead is a super curious banana that never stops moving. I love her.

I'm surprised you have the experience that king snake's aren't biters. The only snake I've ever had that I always say no way to is the king snake. Not that it ever hurt but but I can't remember a time I didn't get bit handling mine lol. Had the black and white California king ended up giving it to another kid that really wanted to start keeping reptiles. Probably not the best thing to do but it was my first snake and didn't put me off of any other snake species.

Quick correction: As an Albertan you can definitely own pythons and boas. Just not really large ones like anacondas, Burmese pythons etc. Go to any petsmart and you'll see ball pythons for sale, and expos have carpet pythons, white lipped pythons, blood pythons, boa constrictors etc.

ive reared wild garters as a kid and while ive been musked on ive never had a garter that was darty or tried to get away from me,most of the garters ive kept as pets were very content with me,now theyed crawl around and explore my arm and shoulder and head and any other place they can reach...but it was in an ivestigative curious manner.

as for putting them in D tier for them not providing a unique experience ,you left out the most impressive part is that they are very social snakes and not only CAN they be cohabed with others of thier own kind,but they actually do much better in groups,as it makes them feel safe and less stressed (which actually improves relationship with owners)...and watching them interact with one another and actively do things like fish for minnows is fun.

i understand they seem mundane but i think they deserve at least a slightly higher spot.

also id like to tack on there are two boas you need to watch yourself around that probubly wont make S tier.

Brazilian rainbow boas ,while very docile (and likely one of the most beautiful constrictors youl ever see)...they are hard to care for and are very delicate and fragile snakes.

and Emerald tree boas: that are petty much the oposite for most of the boa generalizations given in this video...not only do they scare easy and are quick to bite but despite being a relitvely small snake (by boa standards) ,they have one hell of a bite for thier size.

My bcc will literally stretch out on the couch with us while my gf and I watch hockey. She's our first snake and couldn't be more perfect.

Boas and pythons are legal in alberta. Its Saskatchewan they are all banned

I know I'm late to the party but I totally agree with boas being S-tier for handling, and for snake keeping in general. They're hardy, substantial, and personable. My BCI was born a runt and in my care he stopped growing at four feet, so they're not all going to be massive, but even at this size he's more than capable of free-roaming safely and giving my friends heart palpitations when I offer to put him in their hands.

I disagree with your positioning of the Burms. Up to 10 ft length range they are great to handle and not to large yet, however once they get over ten feet long then yes you nailed their position! Also my Bredli python is a nightmare to handle lol she is 6 foot long and always on the go and she loves to taste test hands out of the blue.

I've been terrified of snakes for my whole life. My daughter's made me hold one. First was a sand boa second was a red tailed. It wasn't bad at all.

So many snakes lol I think I would like the ones that bite , I like to pretend they venomous lol they can hang out in their cage .. I do my thing , they do there thing , we meet in the middle lol using the snake hooks looks fun.

If you ever do an update to this list, I'd be fascinated to find out where you would put the African house snakes. They seem to be gaining popularity pretty quickly, along with false water cobras. I've heard the Antaresias are also like big snakes in little packages. And Annaliese from All Canadian Reptile Girl is a big advocate of the Macklot's python as one of the best pet snakes out there.

My ball python will stay on my shoulders when in the mood. Otherwise she’s active & likes to explore. At night she plays with her ball :-)

Reptiles I personally feel are decor, display novelty pets-some more or less and those you can have around the shoulder or on your neck.
They are not warm-blooded cuddle, sentient, emotional and connecting animals humans can relate unless its mammals and birds of course.
Unfortunately, there are lot of people in the reptile world who have anthropomorphic views which is a bit annoying.
Reptiles being handled and handable are natured on tolerance, conditioning and trust rather than friendship and love.
Get a species if you're wanting to connect and love on.
No matter what species all entities of life deserve respect and boundaries. Education is the key.

Unpopular opinion, but African rock pythons are the most rewarding pet snake ever. People just dont understand them and dont give them a chance because of their nonsensical bad reputation. People love to act like they are mean, but that just proves how ignorant they are about snake behavior. These snakes are just a bit more fearful and it takes a little more to win them over.

However, they are even smarter, more curious, more interactive and more athletic, than Reticulated pythons. I have pairs of most of the giant python species and Afrocks are hands down the best there is! Even better than green Anaconda IMO too.

I couldn't agree more. Both my green anaconda and red tail boa are the sweetest girls. Neither ever bite and are both fairly relaxed.

However, my favorite is the reticulated python. Naturally they should rank lower because they take a very experienced handler.

Would love to know what racers you're describing as none of my, large, collection of racers have ever bitten me or even struck.

You can't keep pythons or boas in Alberta? I've kept both (carpet pythons and rainbow boas) in Alberta, they're all 20+ years old.

You didn't even mention twin spot rat snakes. They are amazing even know I have some babies that have nipped me a couple times

I used to keep burms once shortcake passed I moved almost solely to dwarf boas so much more calm and easier to handle overall

Do you have any experience with Tarahumara Boas? I want one, but I don't know if your advice on boas applies to them.
