The Basics of Tactics: TENNIS MASTERCLASS by Patrick Mouratoglou, EPISODE 6

Video Overview & Insights

In this Tennis Masterclass, I talk about the Basics of Tactics. Have you ever wondered why some players can hit great shots but never seem to rise up the rankings or win big titles? It could very well be due to tactics.

Who would pay this phony a cent for lessons ???

— @jamesromano3288

Tactics are what differentiates great match players from great ball strikers. If you want to improve your match toughness, take a look at this video as I break down various tactics and how they help make you a more effective player.

I am certain that if you start implementing some of these tactical measures the next time you play a match, you will a lot more successful. Let's begin!!

Insipid background music ruins the video. Isn't what he's saying worth listening to? Why would you want to distract from that? Very poor production values.

If you play the cross as explained, don’t be surprised if you always miss the ball aimed at the left corner. It may be difficult, but many players have mastered that shot with ease.

1:40 “I have to be, all the time, at the equal distance of the two best shots the opponent can play” I applied this and my game developed so drastically! I started beating opponents that I could never defeat. So much thanks from South Korea.

Play cross is crap instruction. It's not that difficult for a cross court shot to be put away down the line.

Patrick you did a video on the young kid who uses two forehands. Pro pickleball player Colin Johns uses/used two forehands when he plays tennis. He was a solid college player and played some futures. He and his brother Ben were the top doubles team in pickleball. He actually uses two handed backhand when he plays pickleball.

How are you going to do crosscourt on clay courts?

@MsYanlin
@

Complaining about the type of game or type of ball played by the opponent is not a deficiency of the opponent you are complaining from, is a deficiency in the complainers game, for not being able to adapt or change the dinamic of the game to bring back the game to the type of play that the complainer is more dominant. If you really want to play tennis, you have to be able to play and compete agians anyone or any type of player and ball. That doesn't mean you have to win against anybody, but you do have to able to compete against any one / any type game. If not, is not your opponents limitations that prevail, but your very own.

When I see the space and try to accelerate to make a winner, I almost always get anxious, misstime the swing and shank the ball or hit it too flat and it goes long. It's disheartening :(

How can I fix this?

You are an amazing coach! Thank you!

Low level rec tennis = just keep the ball in play. Always think: "hit 1 more ball in." Lol. Also, hitting cross is not always best depending on opponent. If your opponent doesn't move well or has a weak backhand, I'd say hit it down the line to their backhand as often as you can (assuming it's righty vs righty or lefty vs lefty of course).

Do you spend most of your training, friendly and competitive matches complaining and feeling bad about your game and the mistakes you make?

The reason for your misery is your expectations, the ones you create yourself with your thoughts. They are not real, they are imaginary.

If in your mind you hope to make a perfect stop like Carlos, a perfect serve like Nole, or in the tough moments of the match have perfect mental strength like Nadal and you don't get it, you don't have to feel bad. It's those thoughts that hurt you.

If you think you're going to beat that opponent because you considered him weaker than you and reacted badly to the loss, neither you nor your coach nor your parents have done anything wrong. This frustration comes from your imagination.

Remember, no one bothered you. It's your thoughts about how to play tennis that affect you in a negative way.

Accept tennis, forgive it, love it as it is and above all respect the rules and regulations, the judge, the opponent, your coach and your parents.

Don't get offended easily because perfection doesn't exist.🎾💕🫵

This lesson helped me win against a better fore-hander than me, he wasn't mobile but everytime i played against his forehand he won those rallys, i changed tactics to cross between my backhand (which was better than his) against his which he always slice it, changed a quick direction and he couldn't reach it everytime; he was kind of mad tho.
