Just wanted to note that the Stadium Mário Duarte mentioned at 14:46 isn't the location shown, the location that is being shown is for a porcelain company and not the stadium, the stadium used to be located next to the hospital in the center of the city but was later on demolished and turned into a parking lot. The reason why when searching the old stadium that company appears is simply because they share a similar name but that location shown isn't where the stadium was. In reality the distance from the old stadium and the euro 2004 one is around 7km and 10 mins by car. The team S.C.Beira-Mar performs their home matches in the Municipal Stadium, which was built for the Euro 2004 and they practice in the training grounds behind the stadium. Thought it would be good to point that out since that information wasn't fully accurate in the video. Still a stupid stadium to have been built and maintained with barely any games or people watching said games.

Came here to say that the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra, host Académica, at 13:10, had this year, on the final rounds of the 3rd league, a consistent assistance of 15.000+ plus people. That last game got around 26.000.

Aside from that the stadium is well integrated in the city and hosts several other events, from football to concerts, to other sports. While its supposed 'home team' is not doing so great nowadays the stadium never really got to the abandonment status.

In 2023 it hosted 4 fully booked nights of Coldplay. And has, since its construction received concerts of: Rolling Stones, U2, Madonna, Guns N Roses, Andrea Bocceli and so many more.

Measuring a stadium stupidity just by its usage by the supposed city team can sometimes be misleading and this case might be one of them. Aside from that it is not a behemoth in size nor it is a visual aberration. It integrates with the surrouding area and is not much higher than the rest of the buildings around.

I never saw an event there, but as a kid my family toured the Montreal stadium and it is quite an amusing tale of a boondoggle as you just wander around with a tour guide& group! 🍁

I know nothing about european stadiums like this, but presumably some of these (in Spain & Portugal) will be utilized for the 2030 world cup?

Sadly, the guy has lost me only 2 minutes in with a highly inaccurate "white elephant" statement about the Cape Town Stadium which has both a main tenant, is sold out constantly for Stromers matches and hosts multiple world class music artists each year... such poor research I don't think I'll bother watching the rest as likely has quite a few more

Within seconds, you mentioned a stadium close to me and one from my home country. But in both cases, I would agree they are stupid even before knowing that is what the video is about.

But singling out Hwaseong is a bit "silly" considering the country is littered with stadiums that are essentially just a place for the locals to run around the track or for the yearly city festival.

Cape Town stadium now does have an anchor tenant - or 2 in fact. the important one is Western Province Rugby have finally moved from Newlands (which had been the plan from the beginning). It also hosts many pop concerts too.

The mayor at the time, Jean Drapeau, who brought the Games to Montreal, stated that the Games couldn't be in debt any more than a man could be pregnant. But there were debts, and a cartoonist named Aislin drew a picture of the pregnant mayor calling a gynecologist.

Technically the Lithuania Stadium HAS been built. Just not completely. So it belongs on the "Dumbest building project that were never finished" list :P

Any Stadium built for just ONE Sport is immediately in the "Most idiotic waste of money" category as at least multiple sports stadiums can be used for more than 18 games a year.

Soldier Field deserves a mention. A renovation so bad it resulted it it’s delisting as a National Historic Landmark, only to be abandoned 30 years later so the team can move to fucking Indiana

Im sorry Cape Town stadium gets used by the Stormers every year, it host the rugby 7s and the Springboks have filled the stadium to capacity on numerous occasions. Don't get it twisted when it comes to my birth cities stadium, whats stupid is your facts was wrong there.

You really dont know what you are talking about. Mané Garrincha stadium in Brasília is full of events, like concerts. Also there a lot of football matches from teams like Flamengo, for the national league. It is the capital city of the country and people are proud to have a world class stadium there. Note, there was already a stadium in the same place, a very old one. So it is nothing new. The Stadium is now privately run and makes money to the gov, it is part of a whole sports and entertainment complex. If I am not mistaken it is managed by the same people from Amsterdam Arena.

I am sorry, but the part about Boavista is kind of dumb. The big to host the 2004 euro was done in 1999. At that time, Boavista was one of the top teams in Portugal. The title is (almost) always shared between the 3 big clubs, they only lost it twice: Belenneses in 1946 and Boavista in 2001. Better than Vitoria but even worse, Braga was even a top contender in the league.

Looking at the team now is really dumb, the team was relegated after corruption scandal, then reinstated but the finances were a complete disaster (you can understand why). Looking at wher they are 20 years later is really dumb.

Soccer fans obviously don’t like stadiums with a track, since it puts them so far from the action. And only the Olympics or World Championships (3 events every four years) have need for this size a stadium. Certainly the two Italian stadiums didn’t need the track. But even if they include a track, it’s absurd how far back from the track the stands usually are. Making it terrible not only for football but for track-and-field, too. Munich’s Olympiastadion actually has a pretty small setback. These two in Italy are much worse. And at least West Ham (and Stade de France) have moveable bleachers to bring the lower-tier seats close to the field.

Montreal’s Olympic Stadium can’t be demolished because it sits over a metro station. They would have to take it apart piece by piece, absurdly expensive.

To be fair, EURO 2004 was decided by the end of the 90's, so the Euro 2004 stadiums where only stupid as some of them where built outside the cities. Some of the clubs, like Beira Mar, where Primeira Liga clubs, and their stadiums where full by the time. What happened was, when we got ot 2004, they realised that being built outside the city was stupid, and then most of them where relegated. Boavista was one of greatest tesms in Portugal, where champions and a Champions League team by 2001. It would be like decide today to build a new stadium for Sporting de Braga, to be set by 2030, and then, by 2029, they being relegated, no onw would expect that.

Uriondo Stadium in Tarija, Bolivia is missing on this list A stadium made for almost 15.000 people when it's host town Uriondo is only having like 6000 or 7000 habitants. A way to show how Evo Morales wasted so much taxpayers money when building new stadiums.

Cape Town Stadium is actually in use, and host the Rugby World Champions games, The Stormers, HSBC Cape Town 7s tournament, and money other non football events.

Estádio Mané Garrincha is surely an absurd use of public money, however many of the information on this video is incorrect or imprecise.
1) The stadium is used sometimes by Rio's big teams (specially Flamengo and Vasco)
2) It is planned to be used every year for the Copa do Brasil (Brasil's Cup) final game, as done in Wembley
3) Mané Garrincha was not used during the Olimpic Games in 2016, which was held in Rio over 1000Km away from Brasília

Wembley disabled provisions were definitely where they cut corners
