In the wake of the student protests for safer streets that's happening right now in Bangladesh, my mind has been stuck on traffic and unsafe road conditions. Traffic is no fun for anyone -- it's huge time killer and in some places, sitting in traffic is extremely unsafe.
Traffic sucks
While I strongly consider Dhaka to have the most dangerous traffic roads on earth -- there are many other cities around the world with overly congested and alarming streets.
In this video, I share with you the 'Top 5 Worst Traffic Cities on Earth' from my own personal experiences.

5. Delhi, India
4. Bangkok, Thailand
Thankfully there's so many other ways to get around Bangkok now. Great city. Boat taxis, monorail, subway, bikes, still by car if you're not in a hurry.

I live on Long Island (New York). The Long Island Expressway (interstate 495 or the LIE) has been among the worst highways for congestion in the entire country for many years. Most locals refer to the Long Island Expressway as “the LIE.” The LIE is only behind the 405 freeway in Los Angeles for traffic congestion. Nassau and Suffolk counties are home to over 3 million people. Long Island is very densely populated. If Drew ever comes to Long Island he will see terrible traffic here too. I go to Nassau Community College and it takes me almost an HOUR to go 9 miles from my house to parking on campus.

Until early 2010s, Kolkata used to be a traffic nightmare. It was so frustrating travelling between my grandparents' house. But in last 10 years, things have actually changed due to flyovers and stuff, and although West Bengal still has traffic problems, I rarely see serious traffic jams in Kolkata Metropolitan area. Some credit also goes to the upgraded metro system (More tracks + easy card system). As a result the same transit today takes less than half the time it used to take.
And to all my friends in Bangladesh, we are still keeping you in our thoughts. I hope this violence nonsense ends soon, and that safer roads/laws will finally be implemented to better your society.
