After comparing the major brands on the market for backpacking style food / freeze-dried emergency food, we determined Peak Refuel to be our favorite (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxIMNxlCy6Q). Accordingly, we finally took the opportunity to try out all of Peak Refuel's standard meal options and rank them 1–5 based on how good they are for that specific type of meal.

Use real milk in the granola meals it makes a big difference and breakup the biscuits before reconstituting it, so they won't be crunchy a big difference as well. A lot of these freeze-dried meals need a little tweaking but once you figure it out, they are better.

I’m modifying your stupid rating scale. 5 is something you make at home. No rehydrated food could ever compare and be a 5. So 4 is the highest you can get.

00:16 : Intro

Yall Need to do a review of the new OMEALS. no boiling of water or anything. They boil and steam on their own. Just add cold water.

— @ChasingDreamsLivingLife

05:26 : Strawberry Granola

08:17 : Mountain Berry Granola

At $15 a meal package I rather bring some rice and a can of salmon or beef stew for a camping meal.

— @Bk6346

09:53 : Biscuits & Sausage Gravy

12:56 : Breakfast Skillet

ill be the one to comment about dog food, F*%K that!!! I love what you guys are doing and please keep doing what you do!! But I need to ask a question or two. 1) Did you ever hear when eating these meals to have multi vitamins just to replace anything you may need? 2) Did you ever hear as for MRE or freeze dried meals you shouldnt eat more than a week to ten days of these meals. Thanks guys and again you know f'em Thanks

— @allanzielinski7855

15:04 : Beef Chili Mac

17:14 : Three Bean Chili Mac

As other commentators have said, each portion is too large. Could a package be opened and divided prior to a hike or sail, in Baggies or some other suitable product? Also are the containers themselves resealable if you did not want to consume the entire package?

— @crawford323

19:24 : Sweet Pork & Rice

20:26 : Beef Pasta Marinara

Sailboat Captains: I am provisioning for my first week long sail single handling. Freeze dried meals seems like a smart way to simplify my galley and meals. Your comments please.

— @crawford323

21:34 : Chicken Teriyaki Rice

22:47 : Butternut Dal Bhat

In Stalingrad during WWII they ate babies.

IN other survival situations, mothers and fathers added SAWDUST to food to make it more filling.

I think I can survive on my readywise. I'll just add whatever else I have to it to thicken and flavor it up. Like a squirrel. Or rabbit. Or whatever fish I can catch that day.

— @notmyname3883

24:50 : Cheesy Chicken & Broccoli

26:37 : Chicken Pesto Pasta

These are my go to for back country hunting, hi calories, high protein, very little water needed, treats my GI track well, low sodium, l like the biscuits and gravy, all the pasta meals over 1000 cals, and the coconut curry the best

— @jshappart

28:09 : Chicken Coconut Curry

29:31 : Beef Stroganoff

Tip for the biscuits and gravy meal- break up the biscuits in the bag before even opening,
Still some crunchy bits but overall a better texture

— @reesehanson3336

31:16 : Homestyle Chicken & Rice

32:51 : Chicken Alfredo Pasta

Very nice video. How long have you two been a couple?

37:28 : BONUS - Brownie Bites and Cookie Bites

One of my main concerns with emergency meals, or ANY kinds of meals, is serving size. I frequently get Family sized portions for MYSELF, and I am not a big man. I just can't see how 12 spoonfulls of anything is going to fill me up. So I am a bit skeptical of the serving sizes, and I'm not speaking about Peak or Mountainhouse or 4 Patriots in particular, just serving sizes in general. It seems like I'd have to buy twice as much as is recommended. The other thing is protien vs carbs. I looked at like 4 Patriots meals, and not only were the servings sizes small, but they seemed to be mostly carbs, which might fill me up on the run, but wouldn't be a sustainable diet for the long term with low protien, even if I was eating twice as much, as I would expect to be. I haven't had as much experience with Mountain House, but like, I could eat three of their oat meal breakfasts, or, more accurately would HAVE to, to be sated. Is it just me? I haven't tried the Peak, but I expect the more you pay, the better the serving sizes, and amount of protein. The cheaper, the more corners probably have to be cut to keep it affordable. It was a long time ago, but I think I did like the stroganoff, and it might have even filled me up. I can't recall. I also liked the breakfast skillet,. I didn't try too many, I believe I bought the weekend box, and it had basically a few days worth of 3 meals per day for two people, but for me, it was probably more like enough for just me. I do need to eat less, I've got a little belly goin on, so maybe they are about the right amount. Just being honest.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”

Also, I would imagine that the bean chili is an existence because beans thicken things and they tend to be your replacement for gluten which is wheat and they use the chili

It is a childhood thing. In fact, my aunt made homemade chili and suddenly with macaroni at least three times during the week. Louisiana.

I paused after the question of why rice milk 70% of children on the severe side of autism have good issues. The proteins in both gluten casein, which is weed and dairy not lactose are too big for their bodies to break down so they pass through the intestinal wall and get into the bloodstream and act like an opioid to the brain, making them either aggressive or giggly high.
Adverse effects on their stomach as well as the brain all the way down to the bum.
Of course, intend to explore the items and appreciate all the input so far. Outs are grown right next to wheat so they are problematic as well specifically people who are celiac.
I understand that I’ve been living in this world of profound allergy for 24 of his 26 years.
So I started this before became fashionable. And I honestly don’t or did not rather need one more thing to have to do after diagnosis. So I’m not being a Karen about this. Super friendly input so that people who don’t live in our world can understand it better.
Thank you so much again for these excellent reviews

I crack up when I hear, "Things will be tough after the shit hits the fan!" As for this prepper, when stuff happens, I will be in the best position for getting through one. Buying the best foods now, ensures that we will not be miserable when it does happen . We practice with our preps and eat what we store to rotate through them. "Nothing but the best for this long time prepper. " That is my motto and I will defend my preps.

The price for these mre are ridiculous. Let’s just say $10 a meal some places it’s more than that. I’ve seen $15 a meal before. Most lack the calories you need etc. With that said at 10 a meal 3 meals a day is $30 a day. Times 30 days is $900 a month I don’t spend 1000 on food now much less. If all I did was mres I-would be broke traveling the trails. You said these are the best and I disagree. The military mres have way more calories and are around the same price. They say those things don’t taste good. I’ve been in the military and they aren’t that bad.the Mac and cheese is my favorite. Tastes no different than the Mac and cheese PEAK one. My point is an mre is an mre to me period. At this point it’s about PRICE PER CALORIES! And if you add it up these meals are the worst mre price per calories… I can eat three meals a day on the first $10…. It’s cheaper to get your own granola and powder milk for way cheaper a meal. $4 and some change at that. I’m saying it’s cheaper to make them yourself with ingredients from the stores. If they would have more calories like the sausage and biscuit ones is 1200 calories yet you’re not going to eat that one for every meal. I forget the name or medical term for over doin it. Meaning you’re spending more energy than you’re putting in, yet your body will start eating itself and your kidneys will shut down all because you’re not getting enough nutrients. Calories being the MAIN one, protein is another. These meals lack protein as well. I think the chicken Alfredo has like 50 grams of protein but again it lacks calories. It’s like these companies only care about profit and nothing else. If they added more calories they would just raise the price again and it still wouldn’t be worth it. If they could get the same calories as a military one for the same price then they stand a good chance but not till them. I heard one guy say these mre meals last 30 years. First of all prepper you’re better off learning to eat wild eatables than store food that last long amounts of time. I had one guy say something about the fuel to cook anything else. Bro if you’re worried about 5-7oz we have other problems…. I get it, some value convenient over anything else, including their health, hmmm! Don’t get me wrong I do buy these every now and then. I’m not saying I don’t at all. I’m just saying they aren’t the best period!

@richardriggs4413

I love those meals but all of them, no matter the producer, are just priced like crazy.
Totally bonkers to invest into them especially when you plan on using them reguarly.
At least 10 bux for a single serving? Not gonna happen. Not even when they pretend to be 2 servings cause its allways only just one.

I can understand buying one or maybe two buckets for on the go in an emergency situation.
Or sending them as relief aid to catastrophy or war areas.

Other than that its one of the biggest wastes of resources in history.
People buy and horde tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands dollars worth of emergency food that never ever will be eaten by anybody.

But again i love the product idea.
And i buy them every now and then as i do with all food i have not sampled yet.
Almost all of them are really, really bad in taste. Mountain House at least is edible when you need it. Peak Refuel are quiet good tho.
