if only it is that easy for foreigners to setup businesses in VN, Try talking to the countless VKs who return to home country with empty pockets, with failed business ventures. Remember, you are an Outsider, trying to move into the local scene. He didn't mention the poor IP laws. There are
streets in HCM where identical businesses right next to one another, Why ? because there's no one preventing your competitors from copying yur biz idea and setup shop right next to you.

You are stating the obvious! Of course if you work legally in Vietnam you get work permit/TRC! And it's not difficult to register a company but then again you need to get a biz going which is not obvious! What people are interested in, is how to get long term visa without having to work and thats impossible! Like retirement visa and this will never be implemented in Vietnam! As to teaching English, I would advise people to avoid Ninja, they are just middle man. Save your money and contact TEFL or TESOL centres directly.

One thing about the Vietnam work for those over 50: Vietnam has a general retirement age of 60, and working there for those of us over 60 might be a challenge for teaching english or any work in Vietnam.

I just wanted to do a public service announcement and say that the software you used to make subtitles transcripted to "illegal base" on my end. It doesnt sound like you say that but can be confusing 18:37. It makes it sound like you can hook people up with an illegal base. Might wanna change.

so, unless one is married how to stay long term? I mean, if the TRC is tied to the employer and one's not happy with their job or simply gets fired for any reason, does this mean immediate termination of TRC? is there a deadline after quitting to find another employer who would accept issuing a TRC?
one more question: is it possible for remote workers to get a TRC since there is no employer for them?

@mikejohnson3619Its called the UD1 and UD2 visa. The 1 is for the holder and the 2 is the dependents like under 18 say their children. The UD1 is for seeking more talented foreign individuals. Supposedly it's for 5 years with yes a possibility a path for permanent and or citizenship but still in the works. But this alone is not stopping the 90 day tourist visa. So the older generations will be just fine, your SSA, military pensions folks will be all good doing 90 visa runs. Believe me, the viet government wants our money every 90 days. They are not moving away from 90 days visa permanently. Not sure where you are getting your info from but that is not accurate.

I'm wondering about living here in VN as an expat and paying taxes on money earned overseas -- I've been told Vietnam taxes money earned abroad, and that Thailand does also. I'd love if you could share your experience and that of expats you know living here but working remotely or with assets from back home that give them income. thanks a lot, Frank
@frankwturnerDon't forget to mention the Poland-Vietnam agreement. First of all, we can fly in without a visa for 45 days, and secondly, a retirement or business visa is just a formality.
Polish IT specialists, doctors, and engineers do not need the Wisa-Run campaign. If you want to extend your stay, you simply go to the consulate and get a visa without leaving the country, and we will also get a $5,000 pass to do business because we want to stay and run a business here.
