I'm excited to talk to a fellow low-budget independent filmmaker today.
Granted, he does low-budget films on a completely different level than I or most people do at this point. But if we are going to talk about budget filmmaking, it is only fitting to have expert horror film and television producer, Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions.
The Empty Man IS a GREAT movie btw
Our chat sort out knowledge gems on Jason’s mentality behind his filmmaking and the budget strategy. Especially the ‘freedom’, he’s expressed in many other interviews, he gets from a low budget --- in the essence of the chances it allows him to take.
Jason has over 200 production credits for numerous horror television and films franchises. The likes of BlacKkKlansman, Jordan Peele’s Get Out, The Normal Heart, Paranormal Activity, Elizabeth Moss’s Invisible Man, The Purge, etc.
Thats crazy cuz the empty man's a pretty decent movie. The ending is insane. But other than that its okay
Black As Night, the Amazon original film, is one of the twenty-five projects he’s produced that have been released this year and streaming on various top streaming platforms.
The story is about a teenage girl with self-esteem issues who finds confidence in the most unlikely way, by spending her summer battling vampires that prey on New Orleans' disenfranchised with the help of her best friend, the boy she's always pined for, and a peculiar rich girl.
Only difference Jason is Cannon in the 80s made far better low budget movie's then half of your low budget movie's you make it's extremely rare for a blumhouse movie to be great

This would be the perfect man to pitch my package to. Cin & Sy’Rin is a black horror situational comedy about a black Archie / Scoobie Doo style social group of teens in the neighborhood. And there is a beautiful Indian best friend trade deal in someone’s family to have the youngest boy be white and the soft horror is about the new neighbors who are like hillbilly or hill folk. And it’s about one by one being taken to become their friend. AND I want to work for nothing and own a big credit. I’m willing to move my earnings around to reflect pay owning a majority share of YoKo LoCal: One, and a perfect bundle could have a second YoKo LoCal movie at about the same price range as my budget and the studio lets both YoKo LoCal teams compete for 1st or 2nd the 2nd Team is a horror theme YoKo LoCal that tells the story of making a movie at the Halloween Attraction Part which can easy as cake be modified to any Halloween amusement park with a bar and multiple areas and a little jail. I am trying to sell a bundle of screen play different movies for making one myself where I am the main character as an actor and a acting director to communicate the energy of the movie

I like what he did with James Wan on INSIDIOUS and that other doll amity horror picture James directed. Jason groomed James well i think. Because look at James now, Jason ought to charge upcoming Directors for that.

Love Jason Blum but this interview should be in the hall of fame for how not to do an interview. The interviewer cackles constantly. His questions are disjointed. It was only because I wanted to hear what Jason Blum had to say that I continued watching. Sorry but this is Battleship Earth bad.

Even for millionaire kids like Jason Blum, Safdie brothers and Noah Baumbach…they still had to work their socks off and tirelessly network to get noticed. The movie business is totally meritocratic. Just offer something fresh, exciting and different…and someone will eventually back you, regardless of background.
