Mid-day on May 13th, 2018, the mother of a 33-year-old hairstylist contacted the local sheriff’s department to file a missing person’s report. It was not only Mother’s Day, but also her daughter’s birthday, and she had been scheduled to spend the day celebrating with her two sons and family.

But the morning came and went. Every text and phone call from loved ones went unanswered. The last person known to have seen her, a coworker, later said nothing seemed unusual when they parted ways shortly after closing time the night before. By noon on the 13th, her mother knew something was deeply wrong.
