Reviewing The Apple QuickTake 200 Camera From 1997!

Video Overview & Insights

Had a sudden urge to try and find a working QuickTake, but my thought was "I guess I won't be able to get the images off" so I did some searching and found your channel. First of all, it's great to see it working! As I don't have any of the cables to output HDMI to iPad, I feel if the price of the card reader might be an ok expense compared to a capture card and various other cables.
Something for me to think about 🤔

iPhone cameras today have become amazing pieces of photographic equipment, to the point that many are arguing that Apple should enter the camera manufacturer sector. However, few people know that Apple once sold cameras. In fact, they released what is considered the first consumer digital camera. The QuickTake 200 was the third and last camera released as part of Apple's QuickTake line, which was discontinued when Steve Jobs came back to Apple in 1997, only a few months after this camera was released.

In this video I will tell you about the history, specs and more of this camera, including sample photos!

I heard that these cameras are only allowed to take pictures of apples. They have to be bitten. The bite has to be certified and licensed by Apple. If the apple is bitten from the wrong side, the camera will explode and you will have to pay a fine.

I got this camera when I was 9 years old, in 1997. My dad worked at a factory where they processed returns. For some reason it was cheaper just to destroy return and send a new camera to the customer. But most of the returned products worked fine, people just didn't understand technology back then (or now, to be honest). It was so amazing to play with this camera! I used it to make digital photo and video art. I still have a couple VHS tapes with projects. I should really digitize those before they are gone. Later I also used it as a gimmick camera to record "music videos" with friends. One you can find on YouTube and is called "Droid and his funkbox - Electric robot boogie down town". This video actually is unedited (look at how crazy it gets at 0:20 and 1:11). The audio from my computer interfered with the video feed coming from the camera somehow... I think one time I used it as a live camera during a VJ set at a rave we organized when we were in high school. I miss digital cameras with AV output. PS I had absolutely no idea this camera was that expensive when I got it. :O

The 200 saves pictures as jpgs, so they can be read just fine. It's getting a reader that's the hard part.

Today, this camera is so hard to work with. That's why I keep a Windows xp laptop with a 5v card reader and Adobe Photoshop 7 because the .pict files are not supported on any other newer photoshop versions

A composite video signal is so low quality that it’s hard to tell if the photos themselves are so bad or might be better with the digital capture.

Apple created a camera that can take Minecraft photos. Great job, Apple
