Putin admits to a fuel crisis that could endanger Russia's defenses | DW News

Video Overview & Insights

Could this be the beginning of the end of the war with Ukraine? Fuel shortages are spreading across Russia, as Ukraine increases its attacks on Russian energy infrastructure. Vladimir Putin acknowledges damage, but claims it is having no impact. However, Russians are fleeing some parts of Russian-occupied Ukraine, which must be troubling for the president with an upcoming election. DW's Ben Fajzullin speaks to Ivana Stradner from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies about the latest developments in the war.

Mark Sleboda returns to break down the rapidly deteriorating Ukrainian defensive line in Donbas. Konstantinovka is over 90% taken, Russian FPV drones now have full dominance over Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, and Sleboda expects the last defensive line to break by year's end. Plus: the elimination of a Ukrainian colonel tied to Crimea operations, why Russia hasn't targeted political leadership, and the cold strategic logic behind keeping Zelensky alive.

Why do these news refuse that persistently to acknowledge that the Ukrainian drone strikes disturb Russian gasoline and diesel production, but not the export of crude oil and gas? A destroyed refinery needs months to fix, yes, but it’s not needed for crude oil exports, and the pipes and oil tanks needed for crude oil exports are easily fixed within a few days if damaged?

Are his people dumb enough to actually believe what he is saying? He started this war and this is the result and they have the audacity to refer to Ukraine as a “terrorist” state. This man is either wildly delusional or a pathological liar.

This delusion sounds very familiar. Saying how well the war is going and severely underestimating the timetable for this military operation.

You Media channels are today nothing less than a Brothel. That is why there is word given to you guys presstitute. Sell your people for some money. when will you tel the real cause of the war. Putin is not responsible for this war. Yes Putin invaded in 2022, but in 2008 bucharest summit, Germany and France forecasted this war. Stop imposiing high cost on your people for the war. Putin even now wants negotiations what a shame, Whole EU supporting their paid puppet Zelensky but still no sign of victory over Russia. As far as I have understood Geopolitics as a self student, Till Putin is alive, all the money and resources you invest will be wasted.

@godblessallindians827

Exactly Putin WILL only come to the table when week, so we should push on with the pressure on this terrorist.

It’s absolutely hilarious to me that Putin complained, with a straight face, about how Ukraine is targeting Russia’s “peaceful civilian energy infrastructure”

HAHA!! 🤣 the irony…

@Nightsd01

I thought the Russian government levied oil producers at the time of oil refining, not sale ... so it doesn't matter to the government if the refined products are exported or not, or even if they are sold or not. The oil companies have already paid the government for the finished products that Ukraine is then blowing up. Attacking oil mining and refining facilities will directly reduce government income, and attacking refined product storage, transport and export facilities impacts supply to the market. Fuel supplies to the war machine won't be impacted until domestic refining is reduced so much that even with the entire domestic market cut off, production still cannot meet the military's requirements. Is this not the case?
