These time-tested tips will help take the edge off. This video looks at the both the mindsets and the practical steps to help you deal with anxiety for an oral presentation.
Everybody gets at least a little nervous during presentations. It's probably one of the most common anxiety-producing experiences people have. But, you don't have to let nerves stop you from delivering an effective presentation. How you deal with presentation stress and anxiety will shape how you perform in the moment.
I am getting better l just have to fix the shaking abd the heart beat and the speed
Follow this advice to help you calm your nerves.
Mindset Realizations:
My life is ruined. I ruined the one interview that couldāve changed my entire life completely. Iām done. I think that I might be the most useless person ever to exist in the world with no academic aspect except to stutter. The worst thing is that I knew I couldāve done it if I just answered the last question better. Iām done. Iām so mad with myself. I was nervous. I ruined everything. This is all my fault.
- You don't look as nervous as you feel.
- You can be nervous and still give a great presentation.
Came here after I literally got laughed at during a presentation cause of my nervousness š honestly canāt get worse then that
- Nervousness is closely related to excitement
Practical Tips:
Iām going now in an hour iāll update when imm done
- Practice like crazy because 95% of your results will get worked out beforehand while practicing even if you are nervous
- Focus on your audience and message, not on how you personally come across
The physical symptoms of public speaking anxiety (shaking, racing heart, tight chest, dry mouth) are not a psychological problem. They are a breathing problem. When you get nervous, you start overbreathing. Your breathing volume increases above what your body actually needs. This drops your CO2 levels, which paradoxically reduces oxygen delivery to your brain and muscles through the Bohr Effect. Less oxygen to the brain means confusion, loss of words, that blank feeling. Less oxygen to the muscles means tension and shaking. It becomes a feedback loop: anxiety triggers overbreathing, overbreathing causes physical symptoms, symptoms increase anxiety. I have been facilitating breathwork for six years and the number one tool I give people for performance situations is to slow the exhale. Before you go on stage, take five breaths where the exhale is twice as long as the inhale. Four seconds in, eight seconds out. This directly activates the parasympathetic nervous system through the vagus nerve. Your heart rate drops, your hands stop shaking, and your prefrontal cortex comes back online so you can actually think clearly. The breath is the only autonomic function you can consciously override. Use it.
- Visualize the first few moments of the presentation
