I am not from Houston, and I have lived all over the U.S. I moved to Houston 6 years ago, and I have lived near downtown as well as in the suburbs. There are some things I like about it, especially lower home prices compared with big coastal cities, and the diversity and food options. However, there are three things I absolutely HATE about living here:
1) Horrible weather--blazing heat and sticky humidity from May through September, heavy rain and major flooding problems. Did I mention the mosquitoes?
2) Horrible infrastructure--slow and inaccessible public transit, busted up streets and sidewalks, not at all walkable, and for the most part not bikeable aside from the bayous and a few bike lanes that don't even connect, plus a power grid that keeps crashing every time there is a flood or even a little bit of snow. It is a joke to be without electricity in a city that calls itself the energy capital of the U.S., but that has happened to me more than 3 times since I moved here.
3) Horrible political leadership--we are governed by reactionaries who oppose progressive ideas of any kind.
While there are many wonderful people here in Houston and the state of Texas in general, after six years here I am absolutely sick of the weather, the infrastructure and the right-wing politics. I was much happier in other cities I've lived in, and I can't wait to get out.

Traffic is not a con. Compared to cities like La, houston traffic is no different from any other city. A real con that was left out was high property taxes. All else is accurate.

Great video. I'm going through a divorce and live in the DMV. I was thinking about trying Houston after selling my house because my money would go further in Houston. I'm hoping to take a trip later this year to scope out the layout. If i do love it i will be coming. Gotta try something different.

I just left visiting Houston.. I tell the people are so welcoming and friendly. The houses look affordable and Iโve seen all kinds of jobs opportunities throughout the outside of the city especially in my maintenance management field. I will be there next year!!

@livinginjacksonvilleflorid8764Born in Oregon, currently in Arizona so the weather doesnโt bother me one bit. Looking to move to Houston soon
@snowcats95Be careful in Houston. 7 out of every 10 drivers do not have a valid car insurance. Even if is not your fault, youโre screwed if youโre involved in a car accident.
@donnegron220Thanks for sharing! Sounds like a great city minus the weather =)
@markdavis7147Biggest issue here in Houston is the crime rate, you will get your car broken into Houston, especially inside the loop area, south central (McGregor - Sunnyside), north Houston (greenspoint aka gunspoint), even southwest Houston (Sharpstown). Best places are really outside the city ie Cypress, Woodlands, Katy, Friendswood unless you have availability to purchase multiple million around rice military and west university.
@Wolverine-2010Hi do you help with renters as well?
@simonehancock643Great video. The pros outweigh the cons for sure๐๐พ
@Nnena_NgoziInteresting in relocating closer to more crime, drugs, prostitutes hanging out in front of my home in a master planned community.

@SavedbyGrace182Lived in Florida 20 years, been in Atlanta 4 years, ready to move. Houston metro is on my radar
@MikeGee-HOFThe heat sounds like a pro to me. Hahah ๐
@crunchychatsWeโre considering Houston, TX or Charlotte, SC also relocating from California. I love it here in Cali but the prices are crazy.
@CurlsbyshawntajohnsRegarding the Fort Bend County Appraisal District, you can forget about lowering your annual appraisal. I have hired and fired two companies that could not lower our appraisal meaningfully. It is the worst appraisal district in the Houston Area, so you better think twice about that before you buy a home in Fort Bend County. And, they are building houses in Fort Bend County like there is no tomorrow at "high" prices, which will be used against you by the appraisal district appraisers and the appraisal board. In fact, I spoke with a company representative who does property tax protests who lives a few miles from me in Fort Bend County and he could not even get his property tax appraisal reduced, so now you know.
