Thanks for watching! Pokémon has a long streak of silly jokes, using things like team composition, movesets, and other environmental tools to make the games funnier. I take a look at some the tropes and trends.
Am I remembering wrong that there was a double battle in one of these games with trainers Hal and Lois and it was a reference to Malcom in the Middle or am I being Mandela'd

[6:46] Another great example of a "troll battle" is Sashay from Pokémon Battle Revolution, specifically Sashay's team in Masters Battle Set 2 in the postgame. She's running a minmaxed PP stall team designed to be as tedious and annoying as possible. Half her team has Pressure and there's a grand total of FOUR attacking moves (2 if you don't count Pain Split and Fake Out) across all 6 of her Pokémon.
And when you encounter her for the last time in Masters Battle Set 6 she's running an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT stall team featuring 3 legendary Pokémon, and 5/6 of her Pokémon also have a healing move.

I genuinely don’t remember fighting level 65 magikarp. I guess I pay that little attention while button mashing through parts of the games 😅

The Float Stone trainer is weird to me since that item isn't like.. immediately useful.. at least other jokes before items at least have something to them (ie I swear seen a trainer give you the Everstone and say they've had their partner hold it and can't figure out why they haven't evolved yet)

3:42 it makes sense to me. Since Magicarp wears a "crown" and his other "regal" Pokémon do not, he's the most royal out of them and thus he treats him like a true king. He can't evolve him as he'd lose his "crown" (as well as his name which is "koiking" in Japanese) but not evolving him leaves him weak so he tried to overlevel Magicarp, hoping it would make him stronger.

I always found funny the fact that Tuber Ricky in Route 109 has a level 14 Zigzagoon that knows Surf. I know that Zigzagoon can learn that move (just like most Normal Type Pokémon), but the fact that some ordinary guy has a such a low level Pokémon who knows that HM!
@LorenzoAlieustheres a fisherman in pokemon emerald with 6 pokemon and the first one he sends out is a magikarp, so i thought he was another one of those magikarp only trainers... then the rest of his team were increasingly stronger gyarados

Theres so many funny interactions with Team Skull in Sun and Moon, but I still love the pair of grunts in Po Town saying “Lets write our names on our shirts so we know who’s is who’s” “Uh hello? Our names are all Grunt what’s the point?”

I for one deeply wish that it was more common to run across trainers with named Pokémon. Part of it is that I always felt like everyone not using nicknames discouraged me from naming mine; but it would also make the world feel more lived-in. Show that not everyone names their Pokémon, but a healthy minority DO! Maybe 1 in t trainers name all their Pokémon, or 1 in 10, or even just 1 in 20. Have others who have a name only for their ace.
It lets you feel more personality from different trainers (Do they use nicknames? For everybody on their team, or just their ace? What sort of name do they use?
It also opens the door to MANY more opportunities for bits, little jokes and the like. I'm sure GameFreak could find some jokes to throw in here and there!
the bidoof one reminds me of pokemon rangers:shadows of almia
the whole game is touch screen based and you draw circles around pokemon to battle and catch them
the first time it is explained the character explaining it simply says "touch the bidoof"

@acehealer4212People always talk about Onix and Cloyster, but what about how their dialogue before says that the guy's "heart" soars while the girl's "heart" is wide and deep due to their feelings for each other?
@Westing-er3fbThere’s this one trainer in HGSS around Cinnabar Island/the Seafoam Islands, he’s a bird keeper, and when you defeat him, he says something like, “Originally, we were using the bird Pokémon, but now they’re using us!”
It was just so off the wall that I took a picture of my DS to record the moment 🤣
My favorite thing about the woman's secret line, is that I understood the joke right away (she stores shrunken Poke Balls in her vagina, or maybe in her cleavage,) but I once saw a comment thread on YouTube with a bunch of grown women who didn't get the joke.
I also think it's funny that the HGSS couple have a Cloyster and an Onix and not a Cloyster and a Diglett! I mean, what kind of proud man is walking around with an ONIX!?
Scarlet and Violet it's basically "who isn't a joke?" Something that I hope is never implemented again is the whole old people attending the same school as toddlers in Scarlet and Violet and I really don't think I need to go into detail why that's an extremely bad thing

@MrAwesomeone3:15 While it is a joke that the Magikarp is so high leveled, it also does belong on the team with the other 'king' Pokémon. In Japanese it's name is Koiking.
@myrmidonmamoriSo another reason for some of these trainers is resource management, using your pokemons pp so you can't just spam the same move constantly or if you do you have to switch out Pokemon. In D&D there are ways of making later fights more difficult by throwing a few easier fights at the players first to use up some of their resources.
@loganfalvo7349NPC trainer Pokémon are, mayorista of the time, the same gender as their trainer, and the Cloyster is male. It also comes out on the left, right form their PoV

I'm always a fan of the one trainer in Red and Blue that has 2 exploding Geodudes and 1 exploding Graveler.

@bannedsocksThere should be cyclists with one Lucario or only Lucarios on their team. Have them say that they cycle to work everyday in any city with bad bike infrastructure. For that you need to be constantly fighting and also nerves of steel.
Also ace trainers with exclusively genderless pokemon. As they can‘t get hit with attract.
A couple of others: the hiker in rock tunnel who quotes Pat Benitar. The scientist in the Mahogany Rocket HQ whose English name was "Scientist Ross". It was the late 90s, I think the reference there was intended.

@Seronimo93Technically not a trainer, but that one Team Skull Grunt at the end of the typical "long line of grunts before the boss" who refuses to fight you because you're too strong is hilarious
