My mexican girlfriend wants to apply for a Visa in Portugal to stay living here with me, but she didn't really have a good income at all in Mexico, and their salary is nothing compared to Portugal, nor does she have any study degrees.

Could someone help me out figuring out what could we do for her to get a visa and live here with me ?

For me the food in most of Europe would be me top priority, you don’t need so much health care which is probably why it’s cheaper!

We are visiting Portugal in December, heading to Faro and Tavira. We were going to see if we would be “good fit” for Portugal, pursuing either a D7 or a Golden Visa… Well, then we heard about the changes to the immigration process - residency length being the biggest issue - it certainly seems that Portugal isn’t all that interested in having us live there. So, we’ll still visit, but more than likely, we’ll find some other place to retire to.

Every video that speaks of D8 digital nomads never speak to the tax implications if your work is not in Portugal. I heavily searched this, asked questions, and because I will have to pay too high of income tax to both US and PORTUGAL (yes, both even with treaty due to tax bracket), I am no longer pursuing a life in Portugal as it will be far too costly.

I'm moving to Portugal soon. I'm in love with it's rich history, welcoming community, and beautiful landscapes. I hate that investors are making prices rise. I'm just looking forward to assimilating into the community and being good to my neighbors. ❤

Does child support (per a US child support court order) from a US former spouse now permanently employed in France qualify? What about personal savings of over 150K? If one buys a home? Can I apply from within Portugal while on a visa waiver?

I was in Portugal in May 2024 and loved it. Just applied for NIF through lawyer in Portugal....the process has started....so excited. Thank you for your channel! UPDATE MAY 2025: Because I am a 1099 here in the US, I was going for D8 Digital Nomad. But now that I have researched the tax implications, I will not be going. So although I loved Portugal, the people, the culture, the food, the weather...I could go on and on....I am not willling to pay 28% of my income to US and 20% (highest tax bracket in Portugal is 48%, 81K euros)....very disappointed as I would have contributed to the economy by buying a house. Hoping they reevaluate the loss of changing the NHR 1.0 and update in some way to attract folks like me.

One thing you should have mentioned in the video is that foreigners struggle to integrate. There are a lot of expat bubbles, and that leaves a lot of locals frustrated. Politically, things aren't good. In May, the Portuguese are going to vote once again for the Portuguese government and I'm personally afraid that Chega (the far-right party) is going to get even more votes. NOTE THIS: Foreigners must make strong efforts to integrate with their local communities. Learn Portuguese, talk to your Portuguese neighbors and show them that you're here for good reasons and not just to exploit them, go to Portuguese restaurants (tascas), travel to rural cities, etc.
