@katrinaspoor1759The first story: I was living in that development when this happened. I knew Monique, but only as a neighbor. We never knew all the details other than "they think the guy she took in killed her and shoved her in the freezer". The roads in and out were all closed off while the police did their work. Being a 55+ community, it was Not what anyone would have expected. There, we pretty much all knew each other. It drew our community closer and we all checked in on each other more after that. My neighbor, for example, would call or text me if my curtains were not opened by 9:00 am. She knew that was when I had gotten up and gotten ready for the day. This murder was truly hard on all of us in that community. Thank you for covering this. As the cop said, nobody has seen her. We all looked out for each other, I guess not enough. But more now than ever.

The problem I've experienced, with people like Robert (met a LOT of them working CPS) is they will admit they have a problem and need help, but right before the help comes, their narcissism kicks in and they back out and there is nothing anyone can do until they cause irreperable damage.
My guess with Robert is there had been several points where he said or did something that in a sane world would have triggered some form of involuntary intervention, but the system has such a bad history of abusing people that people scared of ever broaching the subject.

@JackieFandangoI don't wanna be the woke friend but if all the pictures that we have of the first perpetrator are pictures of them presenting femininely and they introduced themself with their feminine name I don't think it's fair to write them off completely. Going through the system of sex change and all the legal documents that need changing following that costs quite a lot of money and they were obviously struggling financially. Of course the court then only referred to them as he because that's still their legal status.
It's completely fair that if you're unsure about a person's identity to just go by they. If we get to a point of "revoking" someone's identity just because there's not enough information on social media or they're a deplorable person who did something terrible, it gives the impression that you have to earn or deserve your identity. That's a slippery slope waiting to happen.
Not even really a critique, more of a tidbit. I obviously still find this person extremely selfish and it's a shame security couldn't step in in time when Monique had called but was left to wait.
Just a heads up: even though the court said he/him and used his dead name it's not ok to misgender a trans person. Even if they're the biggest A-hole on the earth. It's just not the done thing. I am part of the lgbtqa+ community and I refer to my trans abusive exes by their chosen names and pronouns. Just for context. Please don't attack me for this comment. I'm just trying to educate and I don't mean to upset anyone in any way. Thank you
