Pairi Daiza Tour | The Best Zoo in Europe?

I really should go visit it again, last time i went there it was still called Paradisio...

Tip for when you visit this zoo, on their website there are feeding times published. You can see them feed the sea lions, hippo's, bears, and elephants amongst other animals. During the bear feeding time the zoo visitors can throw the carrots apples ect. into the inclosure.

fun fact in the crypt if you go into the cryts and take a right turn you will see a door that leads to the tunnels where the have a whole colony of blind molerats, scorpions and more. Also they have some special stones and minerals as decor and the have a little section of decorations showcasing stuff against illigal hunting poaching and more. Also side note, the black panther enclosure was the old serval place so it was a better fit for them but i believe the panthers might a get a new enclosure in the future

If they weren't the best zoo before, they definitely are now with the biggest indoor tropical greenhouse in the world, which also comes with amazing hotel rooms. Absolutely stoked to go later this year.

When i visited Pairi Daiza about 20 years ago for the first time (a schooltrip), it was a bird only zoo (birds and the bat cave was also already there). I'm not sure when it actually changed into a zoo but that's why the older parts are so bird focused and are at the 'old' entrance.

Fun fact: they opened a new Tropical green house. The turtles that you are talking about, now have a large aquarium. They were so active when we visited. The ring-tailed lemurs also have free reign of the entire green house. The pygmy hippo's also have a larger enclosure there, showing some zoomies when we were there. Definitely an upgrade for some of the animals that previously had a different enclosure.

I live in Belgium and l went there and it was the best zoo in Belgium (I speak dutch too by the way) We went there for my brothers birthay 😊❤ Its the best !

Je suis belge et je peux vous dire que Pairi Daiza est un des plus beaux parc animalier d'Europe . Les animaux ont de la place . Pairi Daiza essaie de recopier l'habitat naturel des animaux au maximum . C'est vraiment un parc magnifique . C'est le plus beau parc animalier de Belgique

Yup, I live like 15 minutes away and an annual infinite entry pass basically costs the same as 2 regular entries so we all got one and treat it almost as a neighbourhood park. We’re there almost every weekend

I actually thoroughly enjoy seeing raccoons at the zoo. My local zoo in Toronto has a decent habitat for them, repurposed since the lynx left the collection.

A zoo is a zoo .It s a prison

Even though the zoo is really an amazing place, but going there requires lots of stress residence and being capable of thousands of people being there at the same time. Mostly you don't see anything as there are too many visitors, or you have to wait in line if you want to eat something. The waiting time is often moren than one hour ! Once again, the place self is great, but you cannot enjoy it as it is very often overcrowded !

A favorite activity in the zoo is the lemur lunch. The lemurs know it's lunch time and they happily jump from visitor to visitor - one pf the greatest sensations in life is having a lemur on your shoulder!

They just opened a new area. It's a bit controversial since u have to pay to get in there. Can you visit that aswell?

This is an excellent zoo to go for a multiple day visit, but it can be done as a day excursion from Brussels too if you skip some habitats.
The most ecological way to get there is by train (it would be too far by bicycle).
The train station to head for is ‘Cambron-Casteau’. Its on a branch line, so you will have to change trains in either Ath or Jurbeke (Jurbise in french). The trainride from Brussels South station takes 48 to 58 minutes.
Now the problem used to be that the Cambron station was not immediately next to the parks entrance, and to be honnest, was rather a very simple train stop then a real station. But there is good news : in a collaboration between the park, the village, the Walloon government, the railinfrastructure provider Infrabel, and the traincompany NMBS/SNCB, the trainstation will be MOVED closer to the park.

AWFUL!! Boycott zoos! They are prisons for animals to be gawked hat by dumb humans and they dumb kids. For decades!! Never allowed free! I’m from Brussels and I will never ever go to that animal prison. Disgrace to lock up wild animals! Heartbreaking. That zoo had several animals die young because of depression and loneliness. It’s disgusting to allow zoos and aquariums. Shame on my country. I’m livid! 😡😡😡

As a headsup for people watching now. They recently opened their new indoor Tropical Greenhouse, which is also massively impressive and the biggest indoor tropical greenhouse in Europe and even the world. It houses another 230 different species, some of which roam the greenhouse freely.

The themes in Pairi Daiza are nice, the zoo itself is good and worth the visit but definitely not the best. The amount of animals they have are only the basics compared to what I’ve seen in other zoos such as the San Diego Zoo.
