Obsession (2025) - Movie Review | A Rare Masterpiece

Finally got around to watching this and it is easily the best movie I've seen in the last decade. It might well be my favourite movie of all time.

I thought it was good, not great. I felt like it was overhyped a little.

Best horror film in ages

Such a simple movie with plot holes, plot conveniences, acting strange just to be scary.. so mediocre, drawn out and just forgettable.
Baron and Nikki did an amazing job though! Kudos! 4/10

Im getting anxious just reading over these comments…. I saw the movie yesterday and was so glad to walk outside during the daylight instead of at night afterwards. The complete silence in the bedroom scenes was what got me. After the movie, I went to the bathroom and it was completely silent in there, found myself looking under the doors just incase… I high tailed it out of that bathroom buddy! Great movie!

I have seen Curry and Coopers youtube channel thats a bad idea in the past. I haven't seen his other movies you mention but have seen a good amount of there fuuny shorts like apple pay, get out lf jail free card, trail mix, returning pizza at a restaurant, ect. I have found lots of there shorts funny. I will say i was shocked to find out he was able to make a movie for theatres that also performed very well at the box office. Its very rare for this to happen. Do you Cody like any of there comedy skits on thats a bad idea?

Unpopular opinion but I just found the film annoying. It’s a creative idea, it has disturbing scenes but I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

I feel like I’m on the island, I didn’t really like it. There were a few really intense scenes but I was more frustrated throughout the movie than anything else

I finally watched this and I'm genuinely shocked how this movie is being overpraised. Not only is this movie not good, it's terrible.

Everything about this movie—the story, the characters, the pacing, the lighting, even the effects—is abysmal. When I watch a horror movie I want a few things: A plot that makes sense—and hasnt been done to death—with the rules of the universe it sets up, at least one or two characters I care for, and creative or competent filmmaking. And this movies fails on all three.

Who am I supposed to care for??? Bear is a pathetic and stupid loser, Nikki is a bitch who merely uses Bear to annoy Ian, Ian uses Bear to ruin his "barely a friendship" friendship with Nikki because he's an asshole, Sarah is a passive doormat who does NOTHING while her supposed friends are falling apart in front of her eyes—she even thinks it's smart and caring to reveal her feelings to Bear AFTER Nikki bashes her face in with a beer bottle. I dont feel sorry for any of them. And the story is basic as shit and the movie just DRAGS ON AND ON! It's obvious that this is a ripoff of the Twilight Zone's "The Chaser" and it's OBVIOUS why that story took THIRTY MINUTES TO TELL! There was NO REASON for this story to take almost 2 HOURS to show.

I dont know what you all are seeing with this. If one girl's decent performance is enough to override how you interpret film then there's something seriously wrong.

For me Obsession is the best horror movie of the year so far.

Not to take anything at all away from Indi Navaretti’s amazing performance, but some of those really creepy, unsettling movements she makes in the movie were actually performed by a hired dancer. Trust me, the overall excellent performance is still ALL Indi’s… 100%… I just thought I should point out the contribution that this unnamed dancer made. Cus those movements were freaking creepy as hell lol

I watched this last night, first time watch, very disturbing, very entertaining, very funny at times. Overall, one of the best films I’ve seen in years. Very well made

I have to admit that I didn't care for this movie. Went into it not knowing anything about it, but heard nothing but great things. The performances were good, but that's all I can say. I really didn't like it.

This is anything but a masterpiece. Your brain fell for the hype or you just have no taste. The characters weren’t believable, the horror didn’t come from the story, or from great loss of anything. the horror came from overused tricks. And all of the “peek” scenes were cringey/flat. And The whole film is one note. The lead character does not change. Nikki after the wish does not change - her actions just become more intense(all she can do is get louder as a character…and boy does she and it’s annoying) And horror comes from change but here we have characters that can’t, so we have to use static trickery to scare folks. So it was rather boring because I felt “stuck” in a setting/mode this film created that wasn’t going to go anywhere and I knew it. I simply waited and looked out for the next aesthetic scare, when the story and characters should have been doing the work.

You cannot call this a masterpiece. It’s not. And you’ve exposed your lack of taste.

Overhyped

That,movement gave me a real chill up my spine..

I know that it’s probably been said, but at the beginning of the movie, there are certain examples of attraction that shows Sarah’s into him, I can’t remember all of them but certain things like she uses physical responses, seems generally caring about what happens to him in a certain way, and is more physical than with the other fat chud. So it shows that she was there as an option for a friend who wanted to be something more, but he ignored it, because she wasn’t Nikki. She wasn’t the most attractive woman in his life and that’s why he went for the other girl. it’s absolutely true even though i was just too terrified of Nikki’s physical performance to even take my eyes off of the demonic possession in front of me to notice🥀

Heard so many good things about it that I bought it blind lol , glad I did ! It’s a wild ride that I will definitely watch again and again and again lol .

For anybody who doesn’t know the actress, she was in Superman and Lois for four years where she played Lana Lang’s daughter

I will be SURPRISED if Curry Barker doesn’t pull off another masterpiece with the next Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

It doesn’t hurt that she resembles a younger Neve Campbell who also has a wholesome likable character!

Great movie but it’s not perfect. That dead cat looked way too fake, and how did it open the pill bottle? They milk that dead cat for too many artificially disturbing moments. The first half is a little slow too, but that could have been a budget thing.

Fun fact: It's not a stand alone film. It's world building. Go back and look at everything you could buy in that store.

Man im about two months late and boy. This shit didn't disappoint

ironic justice to anyone who makes a wish because we need to earn the good things in our lives to truly appreciate them. There are no shortcuts in life. Its all about balance. If every day was a sunny day...Their are two forces in all the universe, nature and grace. Pain and pleasure, happiness and sadness, destruction and creativity. If you try to disturb the natural balance, you will hit that proverbial wall. Mother nature will shove your face into a brick multiple times until your dreams of entering a prestigious music school will drip down your hollowed out cranium of a face hole....uh, metaphorically speaking.

That bedroom scene was so unnerving. I NEVER jump, like never, I'm an old skool horror guy, it's not a flex but i just don't get scared, and i don't jump, jump scares don't get me... Curry Barker, you son of a b***h! You made me creeped out, and made me jump slightly 3 times. This movie is perfect! 10/10. Incredible debut, right now, even with only 1 movie under his belt, Curry is one of my top horror directors right now, Kane Parsons is up there too. This idea of this movie is not new, but he does things with this old ass plot that is so fresh that i am blown away.

So many homages to the exorcist as well. The pee, the distortion in her voice at some points, the self harm, lust pushed to the extreme, the power puke, they even did their own version of the spider walk with the reverse walk. I don’t see many people touch on that

I was dating this chick and she was nuts and I told her we were done. However I forgot she still had a key to my place. I woke up half asleep one night and she was on top of me with my arms pinned under her knees and her face like 5 inches from mine. I was like "Erin?" And she whispers "I am just here to see if anyone else was here". Not as bad as this movie, but insane still. Hot chicks who are nuts are not worth it.
