The Staten Island Ferry is a free ferry that runs between Manhattan and Staten Island 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From the ferry, you’ll have great views of the Manhattan skyline, with the Statue of Liberty clearly visible. To catch the ferry, take the 1 or R subway line to the South Ferry station; the terminal itself is officially called the Whitehall Ferry Terminal.
Staten Island Ferry Facilities
The terminal has a nice waiting area with good facilities. There are restrooms and free Wi-Fi, so the wait is comfortable. However, the ferry runs regularly, so you shouldn’t have to wait too long. There’s no security check before boarding, but you’ll see security guards at the terminal and near the ferry. The ferry itself is large and can carry a lot of people – while it may seem like it won’t fit everyone, it probably will.
The Staten Island Ferry runs 117 times a day and carries over 70,000 passengers. During rush hour the ferry can get crowded, but during these times it runs more frequently. You cannot stay on the ferry when it docks in Staten Island. You have to disembark and re-board through the waiting area, but this is very easy.

Clear day. As a kid used to ride Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises (or similiar name) up the Hudson River. This is more like a bus, stop and go.
