True crime. Real justice. "48 Hours" investigates the most intriguing crime and justice cases that touch on all areas of the human experience including greed and passion. "48 Hours," which premiered in 1988, has developed a rich history of original reporting and impact journalism that has helped exonerate wrongly convicted people, caused cold cases to be reopened and solved, and along the way changed lives.
What surprised me in this documentary: I didn't hear anything being said in the courtroom about the similarities of the face-reconstruction form DNA with the fotographes of young mr Burns. I can imagine that might be additional prove.

It is natural that the daughters says what she did. Of course, if he is innocent, why would he remember how his DNA got there 40 years ago! BUT if he's guilty, he knows exactly how, why and when...the DNA was deposited there.

“The verdict came back so fast I don’t know if the jury…” yeah buddy, they were able see the facts quite quickly. Wonder why the defense didn’t call his wife to testify? “Did he have a wound on his hand?” “Yeah a big ol gash.”

What did his family have to say about the comment that he told someone in a card game that if he kept winning, he’d have to take him to the mall? That’s too sick of a joke.

Am I the only one who thinks the Detective looks like the paragon sketch??🤔🤔
@MissTi23I am sorry but these jail mate testimonials are such BS
@patriciaa6308His family is delusional. His defense attorney knows he did it but he being PAID to side with him 😂
@JenS-xn5ci20:56 That looks like Cal Kestis
@AOC1099Making sketches with only race and possible hair and eye color information is the dumbest thing. What's the point of that?
@seanmadison6360He was a good man??? He was just lucky to hide himself inside his social mask for all those years! But, God have his eyes on him. The justice came.
@robertclauber7068Being a good Dad doesn't mean hes not a killer
@JSoccerViewThe killer told a friend had enjoyed a full life despite whate er had happened at the parking 40 years ago lot. It wasnt a direct confession. Killer male DNA was in the dress, gear shift stick and elsewhere.
@rupakgbikas4477So sad for viewers and fqmily.
@rupakgbikas4477ارجوكم ردو في عرب هون بيتابعو البرنامج ....ويجاوبني ليش الترجمة العربية مابقى تظهر 😢
@acad7332Thanks to all who pressed on till all pieces produced killer...🙏🌹
@marlenekoon1763"Its impossible my dad did it" Okay well why was his blood in her car Karen?
@raymondfeatherston8415Wow, Michelle was absolutely beautiful 🥰💕 Happy that she received some justice after all of these years
@brittanytravers8648The genealogical DNA database is such an amazing thing, and has helped solve so many of these cold cases that would otherwise be unsolvable. Thank goodness for all those who put in the work to make the technology available and for those who have put their DNA in the database
@squiredh@9:08 “Every male was a suspect.” This may prove flawed thinking in other cases. Stabbings are typically a “personal” attack. It’s a hands on, act of violence. She was pretty and popular. It possibly could have been severe teenage jealousy. Especially with stab wounds to the FACE and CHEST. Although we know the killer now, I’m surprised they ruled out females at the time.
@annaleedaughterofYHWH776716:57 Gayle Dawson looks EXACTLY like Edie McClurg (school secretary from Ferris Bueller's Day Off) did back in the 80s. She even kind of sounds like her. Crazy!
@juliat4908If I had, God forbid, killed someone by accident I would be sick with grief and guilt - for any living being - but how these people can purposely take someone’s life and then walk away to go on living - and even have children - is so completely beyond me! Rest in peace, Michelle. 🙏
@SusanCooper-w5fit was not shed DNA it was BLOOD
@danarzechula3769so how do they think his blood got in her car and on her dress?? serious denial going on
@danarzechula3769Heartbreaking!
@TheDarkDocketHQThe Motive: Because there was no personal vendetta or relationship history, prosecutors focused on digital evidence during pretrial hearings. Forensic searches of Burns' computer later revealed an extensive history of viewing violent material specifically focused on the assault and strangulation of blonde women, suggesting Martinko—a blonde—was targeted purely at random based on a dark fixation.
@tube1062bonnie blue dopple
@rubenlarotin3141She is so beautiful. She remind me of a art piece I saw somewhere. Gosh her eyes❤ beautiful girl.
@theyputyeonjuninthefridge9532There has to be a lot of nervous guys in their 70’s out there right now waiting for a knock on their door.
@captainsack1Poor sweet baby!!! God bless her heart!!!😢

@andrewagyeman3338This Munster got to live his live with so evil crime on his conscience 😡
@altagraciatavarez1747That’s sad! But I noticed a pattern watching these, December 19 (my bday) is a famous date with crimes 🤔
@carlotacastleThe defense attorney is a real bozo
@alan22470Cases with stranger victims are rare but exist. It’s always mind boggling to admit that not every crime is about money or jealousy or hate against family or friends. Sometimes it’s just the killer and his feelings and a random victim he is drawn to. In this case young blondes. I bet he killed more than one person.
@roxydus3746I don’t put my hands on fire 🔥 for nobody, not even a part of my family, simple ! 😂
@KELLY-Cor78I watched this whole case live and it was very convincing that Jerry Burn did it. The defense was really trying hard to create doubt even by bringing up things that weren't even relevant. They talked about the flood that effected some evidence in Cedar Rapids. Turns out the flood didn't touch any of the evidence related to this case AND the DNA was tested and cataloged in this case prior to the flood anyway. Nevertheless they tried hard to make the jury think otherwise. Sad how the family is in total denial. The DNA was from his blood, not some random touch DNA transfer because of going to the mall too or because he used to sell Buicks.
My mother was in the same class as Michelle at Kennedy and she told me about the case when i was a teenager. She said she remembered sitting next to her in art class and how she was a good artist and wanted to go to Iowa State to study interior design.
Was Ted Bundy ever considered a suspect? This was around the time he was on a spree and it was in one of the states where he had killed before
@montecarlo4294The murderer being called a " loving family man" definitely screams Ted Bundy the smart law student with the good looks, and infectious smile. Just your average darling neighbour, until he becomes the thing nightmares are made of. There is a saying in Afrikaans. "Stille waters, diepe grond, onder draai die duiwel rond" it just means not to be too trusting of anyone, because 6:35 the devil is always lurking in the shadows. Continue to Rip Michelle, your life was cut short, frozen in time, because of someone's depraved mind.
@lesley-annbanda5406Soon as i saw the photo of the 3 brothers, i said to myself it’s Gerri who did it, i could just tell by his eyes & face. He looked the most evil out of the 3.
@kylaevans5928There could, just possibly, be an explanation for his DNA to be in the car ... but not his blood, and on her dress! I find it difficult to believe he either stopped, or started, with Michelle.
@Jezebellum-l2uHold you damn family member accountable. I can’t stomach that
@Toniann8028RIP Michelle Martinko. I hope the detectives investigate Cedar Rapids and the town that Burns lives in now for unsolved crimes. Burns stabbed her 29 times. A heinous brutal crime. I don't believe it to be a one off crime.
@vernac9682Why do they even interview the perpetrator's family? They are mostly self absorbed and it's infuriating!😢
@Coco-pietersenHe probably flirted with her, she turned him down in a way he didn't like or that remembered him of someone else he didn't like. His blood was there so how likely is it they have the wrong guy? pretty much zero.
