Taking care of my mother when she became ill and had to quit her job before she was ready for retirement. I will say, it is the one thing in my live that is at the top of the list being rewarding. I am so glad I had the honor of her trusting me to care for her as she took care of me in my youth.
Much later in life, I had a failed back surgery which forced me having to resign from my own company. I took a buy out. My daughter insisted I live with her family of 5. It was matter of fact. “why would you ever leave Mom, this is your new home. I am able to help them which fulfills my goal of never wanting to be a burden to my children. So- what goes around, comes around.

Hard Earned is a documentary series that puts aside economic debates and follows five families around the country to find out what it takes to get by on $8, $10 or $15 an hour. The series turns an intimate lens on this group of 21st century American dreamers as they fight against all odds to thrive when it takes everything they have to simply survive. Characters represent geographically and ethnically diverse multigenerational Americans.
My son and I started a manufacturing company 30 years ago. We have never been sued minimum wage. We recognize it is absurd and we don’t want our employees struggling because it hurts product and it increases overturn of employment. That overturn requiring new training can cost a company 1/3 for ea. employee. We invest back into their happiness and have many employees that have been with us for years.
It disgusts me when I see companies such as Walgreens work their employees to death because they’re too cheap and feel no responsibility toward the people that make your money. Greed and narcissism. Forget humanity- this is a business.
As Emilia celebrates her 50th birthday, she takes stock of her career as a waitress and struggles to hold onto her house. DJ gets frustrated with working conditions at Walgreens and starts talking to his co-workers about how to make a change. Clerical worker Jose and his girlfriend Elizabeth look for a way to move out of their parents’ basements and give their son his own bedroom.

@YolandIfillThis is why I respect Working Class Americans. Too many people don’t appreciate how easy they really have it.
@VibeSpace_Thanks for the eye opening and also 'long enough' running time. Nowadays everyone chops these docu's into several pieces just to get more money.
I'm also working a low wage job in my 40's and it used to be fun, but if i don't change now i think there won't be another chance in life.
And yet the government busies itself with other countries’ business. Telling people how to run their countries, when this is a reality for so many. Unfortunately this is also why so many Americans vote how they vote. They don’t have enough time in the day to look up and see what is actually going on in America and compare it to what goes on elsewhere around the world. If only the government paid attention to what went on in the country and stop messing up the rest of the world.
@2121bosThe gap between rich and poor still today grows it really is absurd, if only they could cut back on their military budgets to look after their people perhaps there wouldn't be any poverty, education and health should be free worldwide.
My love, courage and thoughts to all those in hardship on a daily basis.
A message to the politicians pick up those you leave behind before you storm ahead in progress and look over your shoulders and help those trying to support those in poverty.
Only you all have the power to end the war against poverty be accountable to the people it's your duty.
All these wonderful, hardworking, warmhearted people... actually have nothing to offer. No languages, no special skills, no profession. I am not a native speaker, but it was annoying to hear that Jose couldn't properly pronounce the verb "ask". Just poor, lower than the average minimal education. That's why they're forced into service industry and into manual/physical labour. That's why they have no confidence, no courage and no no actual strength (I mean intellectual strength) to do whatever better. Anyways, American dream is still there for the exceptional, for the people who have education and skills to offer for the labour market, and for the bravest.
Americans, the education is the 🍀 Go for it.

@edrovandoalvesdasilva2076This was filmed in the middle of the Obama economy. Most people are unaware of how Obama policies crushed the economy, especially the poor. After Obama, redistribute wealth, the number of people living in poverty climb to more than 50 million, the worst in 50 years, And the US experienced its worse recovery from a recession since World War II

@Frivolous000This is the true epitome of what REAL LIFE looks like. Not those unrelatable documentaries about a tiny group of rich people who's lives 99% of us could never relate to.
@EnWAAI8The circle of life goes around, Parents go to work, Grandparents look after Kids, when Parents become Grandparents they get to stay home and the kid who's now a Parent goes to work for 50 years.

@paulsaragosa371How is no one talking about the tax system!?!? Other than being poor and making minimum wage, they tax people like us and don’t tax the super rich or those with (large) companies!?!?! It only makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.
@cindymar1606lmaooo stop, I was part of the fight for 15 protest in Chicago back in high school 😂 they said if we go, we get service hours. I didn’t even realize this documentary was 10 years old until the last couple minutes of the video 🫢
@pahkjeemean6461My husband is a marine, and we were able to tap into his veteran's benefits. Why isn't Jose on VA benefits, and why didn't he use the VA loan, which is no down payment? They mentioned that he was utiliIng his education benefits... so I'm just a little confused.
@joleigh28Meet the working class? Why do i need to watch a documentary about my life? 90 % of us watching are working class.
@michelle_m4446I hope jose and his wife and child are doing well ❤️🩹
