THE ULTIMATE 2025 ANKI SETTINGS — Latest Updates, FSRS-5 & More!
Video Overview & Insights
In this video, I discuss Anki’s latest updates (25.02, 24.11, 24.06, 24.04, and 23.12), including a complete overview of the best settings to use with the new FSRS-5. I also cover new features, such as the option to select Easy Days to reduce your study load, the CMRR, the new statistics, and the benefits of the FSRS Helper add-on.
Thank you for this amazing video as it has greatly changed my learning for the better. I still have a lingering question regarding the historical retention in the advanced section when clicking options for a particular deck. What does changing the percentage of one's historical retention rate do? Does it affect any intervals? Thank you.

around 11:50, you said that for busy people learning and relearning must be set to 10-20 mins but thereafter you said only for 1 step. Can you please clarify this since I belong to such profile. thank you

lmao, in the last 5 minutes, I've gone from the first upload, the the settings from 4 years ago to this one. The production value update has been ent3ertaining. Money and time well invested.

i used fsrs for step 3 and the default algorithm for step 2 and am going back to the default algorithm. i barely felt like i knew my cards when using fsrs. i'd rather have more cards and actually know the material

More User Perspectives
It's like Peter Parker teaches me anki tutorials
@zarax7826The fuzz mechanism is activated automatically, right?
@INFJThinkerHiii!! No puedes poner la pista de audio en castellano? Gracias por tu trabajo!
@abeaitorThank you for amazing settings, again.
However I am confused - you have previously had mixed reviews and new cards - why do you now set it to review cards first? Then I will never be able to complete the new cards. I already changed it back to "mix".
Also - why descending retrievability? Why not ascending? When I am only able to do a few cards every day, why not do the hard ones instead of someone with high interval which iI most likely already know anyway?
Love the video, i have two questions why do we put reviews first instead of mixing both, we wont be able to learn new cards later right if we our reviews are too much (forgive me for the stupid qns im A noob)
Seocond qn i feel i dont know tha full picture when i do cards, is there a way I might be able to remedy this?
Have an awesome day ❤
Do not leave your learn and relearn intervals blank if you're using FSRS.
@ambiguoususernameThank you for this high-quality video. I started using Anki seriously.
@glaakeeThank you very much. I saved a lot of time. Thank you from Korea
@정보용채널I uploaded the Anki manual to chatgtp and asked it the best settings, it gave near enough what you recommended
@jacksonville386821:46
That one frame with the hand... yikes
Need high dose of Paracetamol to comprehend all this. Ur effort is highly appreciated, thou. Thx!
@amndark1Can we please to updating ANKING decks with the one-by-one cards? I keep having to delete it and then when I update my ankihub it resyncs and its frustrating
@cookiesinmynose69Dear Doctor, How does Setting look on a Windows PC? I have Version 25.09.2. This does not have the same options, wtf.
@Kareta02Does this sync with the mobile app as well?
@ayooti09Im trying to get the hang of anki but i constantly am overwhelmed with the cards i have to to do everyday im not sure if my setting are set up properly is there someway someone from anking team can schedule a call with me, im willing to compensate
@acepectiveThe challenge with Anki is it's not immediately accessible. You need flashcards about Anki just to learn Anki.
@MrHappy702You look like Tobey Maguire
@Motivated_CharmanderHow do you think I should change my settings in my french and medical decks?
And also, how? Because everytime I click to change somthing, it goes to the "deffault", as if the changes were being applied for all the cards...
Thanks!
Hey, im retarded, english is not my first language and i also just started using anki today, i have a problem with understanding the desired retention setting. The higher the % number, the more cards i have to review. Ok understood great. Then you said Intervals are too long if the number is smaller. Intervals of what? I want to kinda "speedrun" my learning journey compared to the average user. So if the default will be 90%, i can easily set it to 100% then right?
@DarktoastJAPThe FSRS sounds cool but it's setting the again button to be viewed 1d (i think it means tomorrow) while i want to relearn the card again in the same day
Im a beginner
this video is AMAZING
@v-dawg39I don't really understand the descending versus ascending retrievability option because if we want to review the cards that we are most likely to forget, we would want to set it to ascending so that it shows the "hardest" cards or the ones that are giving us the most trouble first. Am I confused here?
@Jakely7Thank you for the video. Should I set the settings on my Mac or can I do it on the phone or iPad and it will sync throughout my devices ?
@NicholasgtzOn my version of anki there is no “compute minimum recommended retention days to simulate option? Is this going to affect me?
@wstew8811:59 can anyone explain which one is better, ascending or descending retrievability?
@sudrazat8770Thank you so much. It's very helpful.
@Replica239You explained everything except how can i access this window that you opened and it shows you everything because i dont know how to go to it i didnt find it in my anki app in my iphone/ipad nor in my web app anki
It was why i clicked you video i got all the steps except the first step to get me everywhere
fortnite metha settings ah thumbnail 😭😭
@DustynCampanaDo you know how to create cards in Obsidian with audio and import them into Anki?
@arozendojrit says 2.1 mo for good andd 5.9 months for easy! help!!
@mairauuI tried to optimize but its saying zero reviews found these are new decks with no study history so what do we do with that?
@airquisThank you so much, amazing video! What if i have a deck that I want to optimize for studyign up to a particualr date? I have a Uworld "incorrects" deck that I frequently add new cards to. I want to make sure that the scheduling of the deck is MOST optimized for retention up to my Step 2 test date? Should I change my maximum interval under "advanced"? Sinful though it may be, I don't intend on keeping up with my anki after step 2
@aang75053-Crucial Points for the FSRS Algorithm (13:26):
1. Use buttons properly
2. Optimize parameters regularly. Run the optimize button whenever your content doubles or at least once a month.
3. Avoid 'same-day' reviews
Hard Button Misuse: Hard button should only be used when you got the answer CORRECT but it was difficult for you to come up with said answer.
AVOID:
1. Avoid having too many re-learning steps
2. Caution w/ again-good loops be sure you actually learned the cards content
3. Don't cram
How come my new unsuspended cards from today and yesterday don't show up? I just watched some videos and want to see the new cards :)
@iguanamed-y4vImportant question: is descending retrievability good even if you can't do all of your due cards?
