My oldest daughter (7) could never fall asleep as a baby without tangling and weaving her hands into my hair. It was often painful or frustrating. As she began sleeping more independently, this dwindled away until she stopped altogether. I have a 9 month old daughter now. The oldest came into my room and we all laid down for a snuggle in the big bed. As she drifted to sleep, she began playing in the baby’s hair. I thought I’d do a better job of capturing moments this time around, determined to miss nothing. If anything, my attention is now split and I feel these firsts and lasts slipping by. This song, specifically the line “I try to capture every minute, the feeling in it, slipping through my fingers all the time”, came to mind. She might be growing up, but my little baby’s still in there 🥹
