I remember reading Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky as a teenager. So much better than anything in English literature! In England we only study English literature at school, no translations, so they were never part of the school curriculum. When I was at school the main languages studied were French and German. Some schools offered Spanish, but it was pretty rare in the 1980s. The 4th language was Russian and I so much wanted to learn it. Yes it had a lot to do with Russian literature, but I was also fascinated by the Soviet Union which was still up and running when I was at school and I would tune into Radio Moscow and get propoganda on shortwave radio. So exciting! It was like hearing voices from another world.

📖 Video Overview:

I think Dostoyevskiy is that kind of writer whom if you understand, you can understand the collective nature and soul of the whole nation in which he takes part. If you understand Dostoyevskiy, you understand the Russian soul. These kind of artists are Mark Twain- for understanding the countryside American soul, Gabriel Garcia Marquez for understanding the Latin-American soul, Ichikawa Kon (film director) for understanding the Japanese soul, etc. Write others to my list in the comments if you can:) As a foreign person from outside, based on Dostoyevskiy I can draw the Russian soul like this: The life is hard, full of efforts, problems, regrets, mistakes, searching for the truth, but there is always a strong, passionate and sometimes melancholic desire (toska) to escape this and make the world a better place and to redeem the whole world. And this feeling (toska) gives the power to realise this (either in the outside world or there in the people's inner world). Personally, I really like this, because this makes Russian culture one of the most serious and realistic cultures ever. If you are Russian, do you think I'm right or not with this brief analysis?

A lot of thanks for this, your personal sight of the great Russian...👌😎
I am one of those crazy people who want to learn russian in order to get idea and insight in the writing of the great writers , born there , between these borders or outside the european eastern borders..
And another reason came to this one...
nothing better than their works show us the connections between west and eastern Europa and definitely Russland and therefore how stupid and most idiotic the present situation ...‼️
Thank you so much 🌠

— @alicekrausova2715

I’m teaching Russian since 2016, and although I’m not a professional teacher, I do have a lot of experience and I’m a language learner myself. I use comprehensible input (CI) and TPRS, which are some of the best methods in natural language acquisition. On my channel you don’t have to memorize bunch of words or learning grammar rules. Just sit, watch, read and enjoy!

Passion French through stories, please take notice and imitate. Russian is too difficult for a European, we need full English subtitles because it is the best technic to teach a language

@mariaroncara2132
@

This is no way to teach a language. Subtitles are very important, in English at least, of the all speech. Only a few word translated are not helpful at all, actually disappointing and frustrating.
