With The Creation being one of my favorite pieces of all time, I've never actually listened to Haydn's other oratorio. A very pleasant listen even though I (perhaps being biased) like The Creation much more. Haydn truly was the father of the symphony. His form is just so powerful. Thanks for the performance!

As a horn player when younger I twice played in the orchestra for The Seasons, both times in 1962. I saved a program but then it was lost during my movings around back in those years. Recently the program was found and I was beyond words to see my name in it as 1st horn. This is my only throwback to the orchestra days of long ago and I cherish it greatly. I have loved this oratorio now for 62 years and am now listening to this wonderful performance and reliving the old days. Thank you, maestros, for your beautiful performance.

ハイドンの没後、この曲は随分とウィーンで演奏されていたらしい。サリエリが指揮する演奏会でもレパートリーとして確立していたと聞く。未だに命脈を失わないだけの楽曲なのは間違いないと思う。四季か天地創造、どっちが良いと言われると困る名曲セット。

The Seasons is a magic oratory composed by Haydn, which is based on four poems written by Scotsman James Thomson. Although many critics have the opinion that the music surpasses what it intends to portray, being thus preponderant, in this composition Haydn manages to give an almost alive picture of the poem, which begins in Winter, followed by the other seasons. The soloists are magnificent, the choir and the orchestra outstanding. Viva Haydn and his glorious music.

I have never heard this piece performed with such excellent daring contrast. It is very seductive to play especially the forte parts loudly for the entire piece. Harnoncourt cooperates with the players so that incredible contrast is attained.
