Is India Safe for Women? 🇮🇳 My honest experience as a Solo Female Traveller
Video Overview & Insights
Hi Team Lens Cap!
Which company did you use for the private driver?
This is an account of my personal experience in India. As a solo female traveller, I was quite uncertain what to expect after hearing so many conflicting reports. I have tried to be measured yet honest, optimistic yet real.
If you are a single person (especially if you are female!) then watch this video before you visit India. I hope it dispels some myths, whilst revealing some truths, as well as providing critical tips.
Being an Indian women I can say that India is very very safe. Unless you be adventurous and go to extreme remote areas at night. Thats the same everywhere in world including USA. Tourist scams are everywhere. Me as a tourist have experienced this in Turkey, paris etc. So India is not to blame in this category. Me as an Indian have been scammed in India at tourist places 😂. I am glad you enjoyed your stay ❤
I travelled with a private driver and in 4 star+ accommodation to optimise my safety and overall experience. I hope this helps you plan.
More than ever, I'd love to hear your experience in the comments below.
Can a Indian explain the Photos? Like do you put them in a Photo Album and say to your grand kids "ohh thats the white woman from outside India" or is it really just for masturbation purpose???
Always,
A xx

uhh! you're touring the golden triangle in 47*C heat of Summer. Not an ideal climate to be in there, best time to visit it from Jan-Mar (after the winter air pollution is gone) - Sep-Oct is also good except on those heavy monsoon rains. Pls tour south India - there are beautiful huge temples in the state of Tamil Nadu that are bigger than Taj Mahal with marvelous architecture. Kerala is the best place to start in fact where you'll enjoy the hospitality of educated crowd, Karnataka has beautiful places like the Western Ghats, Mysore on offer...
@envywinHow was this solo traveling? You basically had a bodyguard. You definitely would have gotten sexually assaulted without him.
@chilidip691. To avoid getting harassed wear modest clothes in public places.
2. Learn to say NO firmly if approached by strangers. And if you are being stalked, ask people in the crowd, if there is no police, for help. They will definitely ensure no harm to you as most Indians want tourists to have a wonderful experience.
3. Should you need local assistance about places to visit, dining, travel etc make sure you approach the right people. Most well mannered Indians often dress quite formally. Should there be no women around, look for men with kids or well groomed persons wearing polished leather shoes.
4. Begging is an organised racket being run at places popular with tourists, like Delhi,
Mumbai, Agra, Jaipur... If you read stories of beggars, you'll find many of them are multimillionaires. So don't pity them, be they small children or women with infants in their arms.
5. The so-called Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur) is much to blame for poor experience of many tourists. Just ignore taxi or auto (tuk tuk) drivers. Even responding with a NO to them will make them pester you even more. Opt for online cab/auto services or take public transport.
6. India has more fascinating monuments than Taj Mahal, Red Fort and Amer Fort in central and southern parts of the country. Plus the country has diversity in landscape and wildlife that is hard to match anywhere else. Diversity in culture can make any tourist feel he has visited not one but a score of countries
I think India is far kinder and safer than many social and international media portrayals. A few quick points from my experience:
• Staring and curiosity: People often stare if you stand out — it’s more curiosity than hostility. If it makes you uncomfortable, speaking up calmly usually stops it.
• Not representative regions: The crowded, touristy “golden triangle” (Delhi–Agra–Jaipur) is just one slice of India and is busier than most places. Explore the Himalayas (Old Manali, Tosh, Shimla, Leh), Munnar in Kerala, Lakshadweep’s coral reefs, and the Northeast to see how peaceful and welcoming other regions are.
• Accommodation and safety: You don’t need five-star hotels to feel secure. A good hotel with solid reviews and basic precautions is generally plenty safe. Many incidents happen in very remote, cheap lodging or risky areas — choosing better-reviewed, sensible locations reduces risk.
• Scale context: India has a huge population, so even a very small percentage of troublemakers can look like a large number in raw terms — that doesn’t mean the country is unsafe overall. Most people are warm, family-oriented, and helpful. ❤️
I dont care how brave you are , you should never travel alone.
@janebutterfly9089What state is that accent from? It catches my attention.
@lucianopaz171I travel solo next month and am grateful you made this- have heard things that have caused fear, but I am going to a friend's wedding and determined to have fun both before, after and during it :)
@stephaniemthomaDid you visited South India? No right! So visit south and then change your perspective.😊
@GreggvhbvvbvcccddfuinnHave you been to Turkey ?
@uhrreberrehtYou look like Naomi Watts.
@WW3_SoonYou were greatly disappointed because you didn't get into a romantic liaison with a local Indian male.
@WW3_SoonThank you so much for this, very informative! Can I ask where did you find your guide? He seems so reliable! And also where did you stay in the hotels would you be able to share? Thank you
@marisagulli3385North India is absolute sh!t. It's unfathomable that even after being well aware how rough Delhi is, people still visit there.
@JthElementYou made the best decision by traveling around northern India with a guide at all times. I would recommend that to any female solo traveler going there
@florence_92female solo travelling is risky anywhere. Just keep your eyes open, be sensitive to possible threats and avoid them.
@shantanubagchi1You travelled solo in India with a beautiful smile. Thats refreshing to hear. Honestly, there should be a rule for taking selfies with strangers. It gets kinda annoying, along with Indian men stares, lol.
@sanjaykalra3640Hi Amanda,
I happen to see this video, after watching you Srilankan travel video. We as a family, went to this Golden triangle trip in 2019> being south Indian we also had similar in issues in all the three places. But definitely South India is far better. May be if you like to have better experience, visit South India in future.....by the way your travel videos are great.... Keep smiling...
You look like Amanda Seyfried
@Q_QQ_QIt's not only being white & female that is concerning fir safety but people should know that harassers can sense foreigners who know absolutely nothing sbout the country those are the targets . It's dangerous to think about it.
@Q_QQ_QIt's good to take precautions beforehand & have 5 star accomodation everywhere to survive.
@Q_QQ_QBackground music was so hypnotic.
@phanihishiWell depends in what situation you find yourself ... I was with my boyfriend and got surrounded by some guys who started groping me ... I was kinda firm and got them away from me. But I presume some girls might find themself in a stressful situation. I didn't even tell my boyfriend at that point as I didn't want them to get in a fight. You don't want trouble somewhere that u don't know how it will all end. Also I didn't like the looks of guys when u pass by ...mind u i was fully dressed. Anyway avoid a group of people but its sometimes hard with soooo many people around :)
@NariaPantharWomen, dont push your luck....
@harukrentz435That was fun to watch, lots of good info!
@CraigofMedicalLakeGood to hear that you had good experience but think 100 times sisters before travelling next time.. this country is not safe at all for female travellers… please stay kms away from young youth…
@Sristudio82You are too innocent. Generally, solo white women love to come to India because even the 4s and 6s feel like 10/10s here with all the free attention they get. But that comes with risks too. White skin is worshipped in India and they are yet to get off from the colonisation of their mind from past colonisers. As an Indian myself, I get extra respect when my white female friends are here with me and whenever my white-skinned ex visited me. Now that I am without a white gf, the privilege no longer exists lol.
@one-world-awakeningHabibi come to kerala.
Backwaters, beaches,hill stations , waterfalls ,tea plantation,kozhikode , traditional dance forms like kadhakali , kalaripayatu traditional martial art ,best food you can get in india , best police department in india, no caste divisions etc...
People are friendly, better civic sense better than other states may be due to 100 percent literacy for almost 4 decades .If you want to see historic buildings you should visit north but there people lack civic sense, Lack basic education ( Not all).
Kerala is the best place for solo travelers (better you should get a guide for exploring perfectly ). it will Take atleast 2-3 weekz to explore majority of best places in kerala.
I have global roaming service from USA and have received otp.no need for local SIM card.
I am sure Australia have similar service.
youtube is being comedic recommending this video after suggesting me of a group of indians man beating 2 woman in the neighbourhood/
@dondog3123You could have told him to stop staring. I don't know what's with us about selfies..it should not happen
@skhurana333Watching this after the Spanish couple incident. Stay away from this place for your own good.
@turanamowhen you travel alone do not worry because the angels are under the protection of God
@shpetimtahir5695Im thinking of doing the same! I’ll be going to India in April and I’ll book a 5 star hotel for first days and pick up. Can you please share links of hotel and tours? I finally found someone who travels like I do! 🫶🏼
@masterspanishacademyAbout three years ago I've met a foreign lady from UK. She needs to prove that India is a total failure. For supporting her beliefs, she started criticizing Indian scriptures like Bhagavad Gita, Vedas and some Ayurvedic texts..
Many months passed and now she is a Hindu. She always carry a small handbag with 108 tulsi bead mala inside. Always chanting🕉️🙏🏻
In every country tourist will have good experience and sometimes bad experience,, India is definitely safe for women..
People will stare at Foreign tourist not with bad intentions mostly, it's because first time they are seeing Foreigners...Nice to hear overall you had postive experience
Finally someone who is showing five star experiences!!! Most of the videos in India are done for clicks so they tend to go to the worst and dirtiest areas were they can experience Havoc to create shock value videos. They also stay in the worst hotels. Let's talk about the first world like United States and let's be honest... Imagine if a person from Japan said let me plan my trip to United States and I want to stay on the cheapest hotel or in a low end area... What do you think they're going to see? They are going to see poop, trash everywhere on the street, needles and rows and rows of homeless drug addicts!
Imagine on a big country like United States they decide to stay in a city like Detroit!
I have always wondered if India has clean places and decent hotels because I am not able to find any YouTubers actually showing more upscale areas.
I think it's common sense to understand that even in Europe Paris United States and so on if a tourist chooses the cheapest areas to stay they are going to encounter dirt and crime, but there are plenty of neighborhoods that are safe and clean.
Thank you for showing other areas!!!! As a woman I would never think of staying in cheap hotels and low end neighborhoods as a lot of solo women do when they travel.
There is nothing for you to be ashamed of for staying in a five-star hotel!
All the contrary as a woman its the safest option.
Never apologize.
If I ever travel to India on my own that's exactly what I would do and I wouldn't stay on a five-star hotel one time I would stay in every area in a five-star place and I will also go to five star restaurants.
And if I cannot do that then I will not travel there at all.
Who says I need to experience staying in a dirty hotel to experience Indian culture. Not.
First and foremost Delhi, Agra and Jaipur is the worst plan to start a Indian tour. All the foreign tourists are given a wrong guidance. Delhi is 00000000000.1% of India, so not sure how you guys judge the country with this experience. Please do your homework before coming. I leave in Sweden but honestly my experience of Stockholm cannot define entire Sweden or Scandinavia. India so big and diverse and every tourist wants to land in Delhi. Being an Indian, I myself hate travelling to Delhi. So please tell every friend of yours coming to India to start from South. Plus you are in a country with billions of people, so stop comparing with western countries with hardly any population. Being living outside India in many western countries for 20+ years. India is another world and to understand this country you need to know were to go what to explore. I don’t blame you, but this photo selfie nonsense is also curse on this country with fair skin obsession came in from British, which will take time to go. But it is definitely going away in sometime. Have fun and choose better travel plans to explore. Definitely not Delhi or Agra😂
@sreenivasann6345No adviced
@krishnak5855If you want to travel and see India well, then you will need a good host. You will be helped everywhere if Indian host stays with you.
@roshonanaharwara3699I will be traveling to India for the first time alone as a woman…how do I find a private guide..??? Or can you recommend the company that you used … or ever better you kind gentleman that took you around and kept you safe
@citygirl9395Hi Amanda! Good to hear that you enjoyed your time in india.
Big W for keeping this video balanced
