In today's video, weโre diving into IRS Direct File and showing you how to file your taxes for free in 2025. FINALLY, the IRS is providing a tax preparation software that's free without requiring you to hire a CPA or pay hundreds of dollars for a third party tax preparation software. While the program was just a pilot last year, in 2025 the program has rolled out to half of the states in the USA.
The big ugly bill did away with this.

As IT professional I don't understand whats going on there. Say they have this MEF system which basically has some sort of API or web protocols to be used by about 20 third-party vendors tax prep softwares (like Drake). Apperantly the technology of web interfaces they use for professional vendors are well established. Why not make it free for general public

Filed my 2024 taxes with this. BIG MISTAKE. I'm pretty competent with most consumer software and I found this extremely confusing AND there's no option for wiring refund to taxpayer so it's a 4-6 week wait for a paper check.

That's crazy, they couldn't have made a more restricted program... Leave it to the IRS to make it easier for the American people to file their taxes, for them to roll out something like this. Basically it's for anyone who didn't do anything but just have a regular job and did nothing else, didn't move states, didn't buy or sell stocks, didn't do acbdefg.

Hello everyone, I filed with direct file, received acceptance email, and now I canโt do my NY state tax. What website or software would do only my taxes. Iโve tried multiple. Those pushing to file both federal and state together. Iโm a full year NY resident. Please advise.
@ehabzaka1u can use it if u have ira, as long as you didn't contribute to it.. it's just rolled over from before then it's ok
