I Tried Acrylic Squeegee Painting & I'm Hooked!

Video Overview & Insights

Abstract acrylic painting technique with a rubber squeegee. I tried this fast and easy paint dragging technique and loved it, although I did have some problems with it, too. Have you tried it? What do you do with the excess paint?

Essentially you put different colored blobs of paint on canvas and then drag the paint down the canvas with a window squeegee or some other tool and it creates an abstract painting.

That is a really fun idea. I’m going to try that. I think to stop the canvas from showing through so much. I’m not sure if the paints need to be thicker or runnier I’ll just have to test it out. 😁

The first one is magnificent. Although it is abstract but in my view it looks like crowd.

The "Problem" is the colors.........the more "Opaque" colors you use...the better results. However..very opaque colors are more expensive.

Ich denke, die Farbe war ein klein wenig zu dick.. ich glaube andere verwenden etwas flüssigere Farbe 🤔
Trotzdem sind die Bilder gut geworden 😊

Interesting technique. Will look at blank canvas and wood for the media. Thanks as it gives me more to display at a local craft venue.

Have you thought to put a runny base coat down first then your colour blobs? You just need a sheet of bendy plastic to combine the colours into what ever pattern you like. It strikes me that you are using something unbendy for a liquid that moves. Squeegies are designed to remove water from a hard surface and you dont want to remove your paint! Thank you for sharing this technique 🎉

I’ve tried that two out of about 12. I only got one good one. I’m actually going to try today something I’ve seen using the blow dryer to blow it around that seems to be a little better. I’ll give it a shot.

prepare your canvas with gesso, dry, sand lightly, repeat, do this until your canvas is smooth.
Alternately use hot pressed illustration board, it is very smooth.

ive seen them toe but they use kechup bottles ,i assume the pints are put into the bottles with medium so they come out evenly.

Put a bit of Floetral in your acrylic paint ,it will make your paint go a lot further & really make your paint glide across the canvas

Of you wanted to do this technique in a heart shape ,just cut a stencil out of light card & either lightly spray mount it to hold of properly adhere with masking tape..The other thing is paint a heart outline about 1\2 inch thick from masking fluid..then run it off at the end of painting

I love doing this myself - I never thought of using a window device - awesome idea . I paint with washing up pads so they can go smudged . But I paint it blue then add parts of white paint smude it and it looks like clouds . Love your idea here
