I live in NYC. All the places you mentioned are old, smelly, dirty, outdated and overpriced (Katz and Russ and daughters, are quite ridiculous; low quality and overpriced).
Most locals under 70 years old don’t go there for a reason!😂

I've eaten a lot of pastrami in NYC and my favorite is at Hometown BBQ in Red Hook. Only available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for $29.

Katz's Deli. You might need to take out a small loan in order to eat here. I hate cupcakes. Never liked them. And I never will line up to eat at ANY place. It doesn't matter how good or how cheap it is. Just don't waste my precious time.

Just visited NYC and tried a number of these recommendations. Most of these places imo are overrated. Sarge’s was good tho.

How could you not put 'John's on Bleecker' on this list? I'm perplexed. lol

@TillThenPlease
@

Hey don’t bash the random dirty water hotdog. Those are still some of the best. Which isn’t saying much because it’s a hot dog. ❤😂

@jcs1025

I ordered a selection of items from Katz's Delis website including half sour pickles. What I got were literally tasteless green cucumbers that looked and tasted like they had been jarred yesterday. They literally tasted like cucumbers and not pickles. I brought this to their attention and they refused to replace them or refund me. They must make millions in online orders. I refuse to order anything else from Katz's.

Papaya King is still kicking it!!!

Magnolia's Banana Pudding in Dubai is $10!! Crazy!

6:25 to me there's no better Bagel than Zuckers on Lex Av

@SUITSvsTheRookieEdits

Bleecker Pizza is way overrated. Doesn't deserve to be anywhere near this list. Definition of average new York pizza!

@youngrichie
@

WELL THERE IS. NO. GOOD

@samcolt1079
@

Keens steakhouse is another way overhyped place I give 1 out of 5 stars.

@CommercialFree78
@

Gray's Papaya recession special used to be 2 dogs & a drink for $5. Not sure if you can get that now.

@glennsturmfels-sp6rq
@

Yeah, Katz’s is a rip off imho, so many other sandwich shops that are soooo much better and half the price. Thanks for the reviews, will keep them in mind.👍✨

@bkm2797
@

Grays Papaya special is banging! Russ and Daughters- he's right. Get the fish, and cream cheese, then go to Uptopia for the bagels.

@lindajewell947
@

Any place on Mott and Pell is better.

@lindajewell947
@

a "pizza snob" who apparently doesn't know anything about pizza, that is ironic enough to make you a barista in Brooklyn

@peters764
@

Magnolias banana pudding, I'm sure it's very good but if you like that you owe it to yourself to have the southern kind which is a baked custard eaten either warm or chilled.
Easy to make at home.

@mrlafayette1964

Grits served in NYC, as a southerner I never would have guessed that.

@mrlafayette1964

You're just trying to get attention if you hate Katz's.

As a New Yorker with friends who have eaten in many of these places, this is a very accurate video.

@Steven-g4e8j

Juniors in midtown is actually pretty good for their pastrami and/or corned beef sandwiches. Considering the location, it's not a bad option prior to a Broadway show.

@HenryWong888

Amore Pizza in Flushing Queens - The OG of New York style pizza. 3027 Stratton St Flushing, NY 11354 YUM!

@oldschoolaudioenthusiast

New Yorkers have known about Sarge's Deli for decades. Remember that old Saturday Night Live filmed short?: "I loved it. It was much better than Katz."

@Phillipe-sb6ls

Stop talking price. If that’s what you’re all about stay out of NYC

@0211571

Juniors cheesecake. Way overrated

@0211571

Juniors is slightly better than grocery store cheesecakes. Very mid

@Ribobizert
@

Wait, wait, wait. You either love or hate Joe's.........but you find yourself in the middle?

Apologize to the oxygen. APOLOGIZE.

@siler7
@

Agree with your commentary. Pastrami is underwhelming; just tastes pretty much like beef hot dogs.

@brumels1570
@

Shame not to see the The Oyster Bar in Grand Central Terminal.

@jamescashin288
@

As a Chicagoan, I cringed when I saw hot dogs with ketchup on them! Thanks for the dim sum restaurant recommendation though. I remember Katz’s before the huge fame and newer location, when it was full of old men sitting at tables endlessly with glasses of tea. I loved it back then and now that I live in North Carolina for part of the year, I still appreciate their menu and mail order service.

Please pay cash. If you use your card you're supporting the big banks. Paying cash keeps cash alive.

@AshS-r4x
@

Fair, but Lugers, Ess , Katz & Russ are the best (yes, skip their bagel.)

@geraldbrienza4474
@

The best cheesecake I ever had was the one dished out at the old Forum Diner on Route 4 in Paramus, NJ. Alas, it's gone now, replaced by a skydiving place. But that stuff after an Allman Bros. Band concert in Manhattan was the stuff dreams are made of, and beat Junior's seven ways to Sunday.

Any bagel that is big and fluffy isn't a bagel. Leo Rosten described bagels in his book "The Joys of Yiddish" as "tough as a snow tire. A true bagel is dense and chewy, not big and fluffy.

For banana pudding, if it's north of the Mason-Dixon line and not served up in a soul food restaurant that serves cafeteria-style artery-cloggers made with love by the descendants of the founder, it's not banana pudding.

@jillcnc

Agree that Rus & Daughter is pricey. My wife and I ate at the restaurant a few years ago. However, I thought the atmosphere was really charming and I loved the authentic Jewish feel. And I thought the food was excellent. As a tourist, I really enjoyed the experience.

@gs547
@

You completely lost all credibility once I saw you killed the dim sum with the soy sauce.

Do you even know how dim sum is made?

Good vid. Next, go upscale. Tell us about: Union Square Cafe, “21”, Osterio Al Doge, Ralph Lauren Polo restaurant, Rao’s, etc…
Thank you!🎉😊

I’ve never seen a line at Russ. It there’s always one at Katz

@geraldseely2203

One thing most long term residents and natives know is that it's almost never worth standing in line for any restaurant in New York, and that's a common theme in your commentary here too. I don't 100% agree with everything on your list but I do agree with that; NYC just has so many options for anything that there's almost always a better option somewhere close by. You just need to find it, but that's part of the fun of being in New York. To me it almost defeats the purpose of living in or visiting such a large, diverse city if everybody's just going to crowd into the same few places (some of which aren't even very good).

27 for a pastrami sandwich?
