After fleeing an abusive relationship, a young mother finds a job cleaning houses as she fights to provide for her child and build them a better future.

Going through this right now in my personal life. Even after being educated. When a woman has a baby, it's real struggle and she is more prone to abuse/control

I remember my daughter Dad took me to court thinking he will get full custody. I told him and the judge he would never see my child. I carried her nine months and brought her into this world and wouldn’t nobody do anything about it and I made sure of it.

What really got me is how the entire through out most of the show Alex was moving place to place and eventually ended up back with Sean........ only when she said "I am so stupid did I truly realise she was back with Sean again" . The lady at the abuse centre said they always go back a few times before they decide it is enough. The portrayal of abuse is spot on.

Am I the only one who thinks that Sean was right when she failed to discuss her applying to the university? Of course any man would be upset if you plan on moving away with his daughter without telling him. I’m not justifying abuse, but Alex made some mistakes too which made it worse.

I can’t believe there are people who defend Sean and take his side, absolutely disgusting makes me sick to my stomach😢

"Im so stupid"
My physically and emotionally abusive girlfriend of 5 years left last night, took all the money for my essentials. Took the car. All because I wanted a to go outside and clear my thoughts. Here I am, abandoned alone with nothing for the 40th time. And this clip really resonated with me. Ive never believed I was truly abused and neglected til just now. Ive never felt so stupid in my life.

No. You are not stupid. But you are in this game.

These scenes are gut wrenching yet so helpful for more to feel seen with what they went through, or are going through.

I watched the whole series a couple of years ago, but I’m watching this clip tonight, because I’m trying really hard not to get drawn back in. He’s moved out. The papers are signed. There is a waiting period in our state for divorce, but I’m almost there. My kids are so angry at me for ā€œbreaking up our family.ā€ That’s because he’s in the love-bombing stage, for all of us. I know what it is. I’ve seen it over and over again. So why am I tempted? I’m watching this scene, to remember what it was like, because I keep forgetting.

This lady character was an azzhole. She was taking advantage of another guy and sleeping with her "ex". This show is good showing the life and bad and dumb decisions of a western missguided woman on her 20s.

@sirguroz
@

She was, she is. Her child become ….. in real life. Stop romanticizing this crappy of woman let go and raise children that become whatever once their mom fought so much.

I hated her and swore at the tv countless times (that’s something I RARELY do) when she got back to him and literally did nothing against the horrible things he did to her again. She literally got back to where she started. Thank god it has a good ending

In all honesty, I really don’t like what Alex was doing. She was only using Sean until she had enough money to leave and Sean was trying.

Women see men like this and immediately say ā€œI need to have his child, NOWā€ and then expect everyone to feel sorry for them lol

If sofas could talk. 😢😢😢

@mayperez1420
@

When I was a little kid my mom would just sit on the sofa and sleep. I used to feel so neglected at how she seemed to just never notice me. Then I grew up and became an adult and realized she was dealing with my abusive father who would terrorize us and hit her and so all those hours she spent on the sofa was her dissociating from her sad reality. How tragic. This show was too real sometimes.

Sean took her car so she had no way to escape Alice should have never got back into that situation but with her mother and dad she was thrown back into the abusive pattern again😮

To me, this scene displays "not thinking ahead" and falling into the trap of manipulation and isolation. The character knew this man was abusive and manipulative but still she underestimates what he would do to get her to bend to his will. I've been in an abusive relationship and the abuser feeds off of the weakness of the person they're abusing. Everyone has a choice. She didn't HAVE to be there. She chose to be there even though she knew how he was. Alex did not stand up for herself through most of the series. It's sad that we allow ourselves to go thru the worse before we wake up and realize that we have a choice in most of the battles we fight. I love this series though. One of the best ever from Netflix!

Such a good show. This scene had me in tears.

@kaytee7777
@

I wasn’t expecting the show to do this. I thought they were gonna have the two get back together in a fairytale way, but then reality hit and I was impressed. I’m glad they didn’t give the audience a cheesy ending by having Sean magically become a better guy. Abuse is a cycle.

@DRIATV22
@

when i watched this clip in the show my heart felt for her. i know the feeling… i grew up in the worst abusive household, my father mother and brother all abusive, neglectful, and complicit with each others abuse and all enabling each other :P i waited 18 years to get out… and it broke me more than once, that helplessness feeling, even thinking youre stupid for doing some things when abuse is never the victims’ fault.

@didyouknowthis2468
@

She’s an idiot indeed for leaving a nice guy who was financially stable and going back to an abuser. In one scene Nate was like ā€œI build skyscrapers what can he build a drink?ā€ and he’s right. She needs to take responsibility
