How Trump Strategy for Venezuela Won’t Work on The US’s Caribbean Neighbour
Video Overview & Insights
Cuba is running out of power, fuel and patience. As blackouts spread and anger grows, Donald Trump is turning up the pressure on Havana, blaming the regime for the island’s collapse while Cuba points to decades of US sanctions.
The US doesn’t have an enough military personnel to legitimately take control of the island. Which is exactly like every place the US has invaded since 1946. So, all they are doing is creating chaos with no practical objectives other than bomb human beings for publicity.
The historic US indictment of former president Raúl Castro has raised the stakes and a bigger question – is Trump trying to use his Venezuela playbook on Cuba? With US military power visible in the Caribbean, can Washington force change in Havana or would intervention in America’s Caribbean neighbour could end in catastrophe?

Its an absolute disgrace and brings shame on the rest of the world that they have allowed the Americans to lay siege to Cuba with their sanctions and blockades !! Why are we letting this happen?

Why do the Americans ,or rather Trump , want to support some communist or other dictatorial regimes but Cuba is unacceptable? Does Trump simply want to create a "luxury" resort?

Good lord - I've just never seen anyone with less of a filter on his mouth than President Trump.

As far as I can tell Trump isn't trying to use the same strategy on Cuba as Venezuela. Venezuela was a unique situation. From what I can tell we're just walling Cuba off and letting it fester. I haven't seen anyone try to go in and snatch their leader or anything like that.
Cuba has been a thorn in our side ever since Batista (and I'm not defending Batista - there were PLENTY of problems with him, which is why Castro was able to take over in the first place). But the place is certainly a) broken in terms of being a risk-free neighbor for America to have so close to its border and b) (more importantly) broken in terms of the life the people of Cuba get to live. It SHOULD be a rich and prosperous people, but Castro's yoke has kept that from happening. It's not even really Communist in the same sense anymore - it's a fascist junta led dictatorship.
As far as I can tell no one is ACTUALLY Communist anymore. Some places still use the label, but it doesn't really fit anymore. Even China, led by the "Chinese Communist Party" is a highly capitalistic state. Communism as an institution failed decades ago, and good riddance to it.
