Everyone drives how they're comfortable to do so!
I've got 4 minor demerit points on my exam for stirring the wheel and failed it due to this! I mean how it's even possible to get 4 while it should count as 1 minor mistake!

when using the push and pull technique, is it acceptable to drag a hand to lower on the steering wheel before turning to allow for a smoother 'push' with that hand as you turn?
For example, before turning right, dragging your left hand down to the bottom of the steering wheel and pushing with that hand, turning the wheel to the right. If this is acceptable, how far down can I put my hand?

I watched the video with interest as I've been driving for about 3 years. Turns out I acquired at least one bad habit, but I guess that is inevitable...

For example holding the wheel on the 7 and 5 positions. Its much more comfortable when on a long road with no turns. It compromises my ability to make sharp turns and I realize that, but when you are on a highway for hours it makes no sense to keep my hands up.

When I make 90 degree turns in the city I turn "correctly", so yey i guess :)

A quarter to 3 is a better position.
The reason? If the airbag was to burst the idea is you won't get your arms flying out to the side after being smashed by the airbag.
A quarter to 3 hypothetically means the airbag will go "through" your arms not hitting them as the AB deploys.
Try both positions and see what best suits.
