How to tell the flu from a cold

Video Overview & Insights

It often begins with a tingle in your throat or a single sneeze, followed by a headache, drowsiness, a runny nose and nagging cough. It’s official, you’ve caught a virus.

Kaas-Har Churna from Planet Ayurveda has been very helpful during seasonal flu and supports my respiratory comfort naturally.

The question is, have you been infected by the constantly mutating influenza virus, known as the flu? Or is it one of the 200 strains of the common cold virus?

There IS no way to tell the flu from a cold. Two and a half weeks ago I developed a dripping nose, asthma, and laryhgitis, and a temperature of normal to 99..2.. Then I got better and went back to work. Then my nose stuffed up completely and ran down my face for two days. Temperature 99.3. I got better and went back to work. Then I got terrible diarrhea. I thought maybe I had covid since I can count on the fingers of one hadn the viruses that could act like that. Instead I tested positive for influenza A. Day after that I was well. Doctor said it wasn't a mistake. A lot of people never get very sick with the flu and never run much of a fever. He said I've probably had the flu far more times than I ever knew it. Head of maintenance at my apartment complex said he had the flu and he had no fever at all.

I researched o the internet. A lot of people never have much of a fever with teh flu and never get very sick, and 20% never have any symptoms of all - though they're contagious. So STOP with the catastrophizing it isn't helping ANYONE.

I think I am one of those people who gets common cold at least 5-6 times a year. I used to go through the whole shenanigans, sore throat, running nose, the fever , then cough and the phlegm. Believe it or not I got cure, all thanks to so called pseudoscience of homeopathy, Rhustox 200, it works.

So I’m watching this information I can see that I have the flu hands out, but I’m still going to request for a Covid vaccine just to ensure that that’s negative. I’ll keep y’all posted. Normally, I self diagnose myself because I’m tired of paying stupid amounts of money at these Urgent Care’s doctors office. It’s just better doing it that way for me.

Dont forget the mask. If you absolutely have to go out, please wear the mask so you're minimizing the spread to others

Interesting that in the US, you guys use John Doe and Jane Doe instead of John Brown and Jane Doe as a generic names, or names unidentified persons.

The virus needs cold environments. We catch more in the winter because it’s easier for the virus to find a cold throat/nose to leave on.
The virus doesn’t cause a fever. Your defence system causes a fever to raise the body temp.
Thats why hot soup or tea, does help.

So that guy was right, covid-19 was just a flu that spread fast. We just overreacted. 😂

Cold - not serious. Comes on gradually, starting with scratchy throat. Typical 9 day trajectory. 3 days onset, 3 day peak, 3 day recovery. You can usually manage to live normally during it though it helps to take medicines to manage symptoms.
Flu - serious. Comes on suddenly. Cold like symptoms but also debilitating weakness, fever. Wipe out - you can’t live normally. Complications like chest infections are more likely so doctors will sometimes prescribe anti-biotics e.g if mucus is green/dark.
If people say at work “I have a touch of flu today”, they DON’T! If you had flu you wouldn’t be able to go to work.

The 8 million dearhs in Spain during the flu epidemic of 1918 -1920 seems to be a gross overestimation. Most soures show a ¼ million figure,

Sadvhow the downside of the cold is how much it cost businesses yearly, not affect on people. 😢😢

@TiberiusStJudge

If someone with a cold says they have flu I'm very tempted to punch them. Anyone who's actually had flu knows that it's orders of magnitude worse than a cold, no matter how bad the cold is. A really bad cold is a cakewalk compared to real influenza

I'm VERY UPSET that my mother DOESN'T wash her hands when she came home from work and from public places especially after she took public transit and just touched the big bowls from the drawer and the small bowls from the upper cabinet as well as the utensils from the drawer in the kitchen. Even the hands look clean without color of brown or black dirt when not washed when coming home from other places, the germs are very tiny and could only be seen under the microscope. I also see her keep on touching her face in public places after touching items in stores. I'm also worried about some people driving who cough and sneeze without having time to cover their mouths spread the germs around the vehicle. I was also VERY ANGRY seeing the cleaning lady NOT wash her hands when she came straight to my kitchen to put the vegetables in the casserole after she threw the trash / garbage. I ALWAYS MADE IT A HABIT TO WASH MY HANDS AFTER I CAME HOME FROM WORK AND ALSO AFTER COMING HOME FROM PUBLIC PLACES. I'm very scared of catching the COVID variant, Nimbus which causes very painful sore throat and other kinds of germs when my mother and the cleaning lady don't always wash their hands every time they come to the kitchen.
